1969-S Lincoln in PCGS MS67 RED

I just made one and I have no clue as to the value of it. The coin is a pop 3 (currently listed as pop 2 until my coin gets added to the pop report).

Does anyone know what the value of one of these is? The only sales for this coin I could find were both 2.5 years old and on Teletrade for only $100. I assume that it is the same coin that "sold" both times there.

Of the two coins graded by PCGS, one is listed in the #10 registry set (MA Cline Collection), but the other one isn't in one of the top 20 sets or it is in one of the hidden sets.

That Ohio quarter is looking sweet too! Nice submission.
Greg- Did any of those 2002 Kennedies have a shot at 68? If so, please PM me if any of them are available for sale?
    Thanks.

  • Greg - congrats. I don't know what its worth to be quite honest but I have a thing for this date an would be interested in acquiring it when and if your selling it. The low pop is great and all but there may be bags and bags of them around. I'm sure others would know better. Keep me in mind with a PM.

    Greg,
I'd compare other sales from lower pop MS67RD cents. Nice job! How many 2002 Mint Sets did you go through for the coins you selected to submit?

    Greg-

From where I sit these modern low-pop Lincoln MS coins have been going absolutely nuts in all venues, and all price guides are laughably out the window. If you want it to roll now (before the bubble bursts) you might try a trial run on Ebay with the ol' high reserve to get a feel for the action. I just don't think there's any other way to tell right now...

I think it was 10 sets I looked thru and ended up buying 6 of the sets. A dealer had a pile of them fresh from the mint and I just looked thru them one day.

Compare that to about 7500+ coins I looked thru to find that 69-S Lincoln. My eyes looked like this image after I finished searching.

Greg, ah to be young again, congrats on the coin.
  • Nice find Greg! I don't know what it's worth either. 18 months ago, I'd have said $500-$750. A 77D in MS67 (pop 7) sold for over $700 recently. Almost certainly 4 figures. Way more than I could afford.

it was a pop 2 70-d and not a 77-d that sold for that perfectstrike. 70-d coins are not nearly as nice overall as 69-s.

    Here's a 77-D for $611. Link

Oh Jeez Brian, I was selling those for $200 each a couple of months ago when I ran the pop up from 2 to about 7 or 8. I sold the 70-d for $800 a week ago.
  • Thanks for the correction Datentype. My mind is showing it's age image

Back in the late '60's-early '70's, I used to get $25 face value boxes of cents from the bank to search through (there were still a fair number of wheat cents to be found). On a couple of occasions, I was given full boxes of BU '69-D and '70-D cents - 50 bank wrapped rolls of each date. I was a student at the time, and couldn't afford to keep all of them, so I cherrypicked the rolls and took the rest back to the bank. If my inventory is correct, I still have 5 rolls of the '69-D and 6 rolls of '70-D. Most of them were put back into the paper rolls (to save money on tubes), so I don't know what color they've turned after all these years. After hearing what the '70-D is selling for in MS67, I'd better pull those rolls out of the vault and check them. As I recall, a lot of them had a greasy or waxy substance on them - those went back to the bank. It'll be interesting to see if those rolls hold any surprises. A few MS67's would be nice.image

I'm just taking offers on it right now. Anyone feel free to PM or email an offer. I assume that by the end of this week I'll pick an offer I like and this coin will have a new home.

I like that coin for an ms67 and it is worth good $. They have been quite evil at pcgs on Lincoln memorials the past couple of months and it's nice to see them get one right. i think this coin has a legitimate chance of having the pop hit 10 or more in this grade with just one nice roll. There were fresh dies for this date and it's just amatter of time before i make some myself so you better get the $ while you can as the price will probably drop after this sale.
