Urge to kill rising....

I was watching the wonderful, "Shop at Home Network". They happened to be selling coins again. It took me about 15 seconds before I wanted to hit the guy.

I saw them hype deals such as..... 40 buffalo nickels for $40 -- or save and buy 120 for only $99.95. No mention on the quality as I'm sure they weren't very nice.

A 2002 proof set and proof silver eagle for $90.00. (still available from the mint for much, much less)

OMG this is the kicker....... let me set this up....

They had all of the state quarters set in generic plastic holders with colorful backgrounds; and some were gold plated. They kept saying these were PQ coins, with no marks at all. They said they weren't "picked out quarters," but they were all cut out of mint sets. image

They said, "imagine having all of the quarters in mint state 66 like we have here, then the set would be worth over $3,000. You will get these quarters! It's only $120 for these 30 cut out of mint sets quarters!"

BS, bs, bs, bs, bs, and more BS.

Anyways i'm finished, byebye

Like I tell them at work, if you poke him in the eyes, I'll help you beat them down, this way they do not know who is hitting them!

jakemrjr, sounds like we need to get you a little 2" TV so you can watch "The Shinning" image

No coins and no decent prices make Neil something something
  • Did you notice the Binion silver part at the begining of the show?

He had a pile of coins in front of him that he kept rubbing his hands through... he picked one up and said " Oh yeah this 54 quarter will easily grade ms67" then TOSSED the coin back to the pile and rubbed his hands through it...

I wanted to really hit the guy after that.

  • I didn't see that part with the quarter tossing but I sure believe it.

That guy should just do his show while sitting on the crapper. He would probably drop them in the toilet and say they're cleaner so they will grade ms69 now. image

I agree with everything everyone has said. Even the part about doing the show in the crapper. There is one thing to remember is that a lot of people get exposed to coins for the first time with this BS and some of them even turn into real collectors. Maybe even a few people on here started that way and would never admit it. I heard Anaconda's 1933 Saint guy started collecting off the TV.
  • Thats prety funny, picking up a 1954 Quarter, rubbing fingers all over it, then say it will grade ms67, and then toss it back into the pile, to get a few more nicks on it. LOL

They should put a warning at the bottom of the tv show:
"Warning: This guy has no clue about coins, and we are not liable for his stupidity."

    You want fries with that?

It's probably OK. Considering the quality of the things on the show, I'm sure it only looks like a quarter. The other side probably has a burger king logo and says "good for ketchup packet on next purchase"

My first buying experience was through Littleton. I don't know how I survived with my enthusiasm and positivity intact.
