What is the best way to package coins going for gradeing

well as you all know I have just got back into collecting and getting ready to sign up for gold membership at pcgs and will be sending about 25 coins to be graded I have a few more I want to send in the future but want to see how these go they are from when I was younger over 15 years ago. My question is what way is the best way to send them in 2x2 or plastic sleeves or how any input will be of help and any insights.

also I hate to say it I have a found that some of the coins I have have gained what looks to be small tarnished dots on them and also on most of my 1943 steel cents gained coression on the edges what is the best thing to do with these other then get them away from my other coins I also have gotten some siclia packets that will be kept with my coins for moisture.

thankyou for the help

  • i pu tmine in the flips--the plastic one you can see thru, not the cardboard circle (i get them mixed up) then i stick it in the envelope with two peices of cardboard on either side, a poof! throw it in the mailbox. Good Luck,

Step 1: Apply thumbprint to both obverse and reverse (Doing this saves you money at PCGS because they don't have to do it for you)

Step 2: Put coins in flips. Write the grade you expect to receive for each coin on a sticker and put it on the flip. This will shorten your submission time significantly as PCGS will simply be able to subtract 5 from every grade you have written down and pre-print the labels without having to guess what grade you think they should be and then do the subtraction themselves.

Step 2b: <Optional> Alternatively, you can go ahead and subtract five grades for PCGS. This potentially can speed your grading time up significantly...it may only take 2 or 3 months for their express service with this method. The downside is that sometimes PCGS will not realize you already subtracted, and they will take off an additional 5 points.

Step 3: Place coins in box.

Step 4: Randomly remove 25% of coins. These will be bodybagged for AT, cleaning, or just because, so speed up turnaround time by removing them straight away.

Step 5: Mail the package. Immediately after sending the package, walk directly to the claims department at the post office and get in line. You will receive you refund check in about 8 weeks!

    I almost forgot:

Step 6: Use the refund check to buy more coins and repeat the process. If you do this, one of two things will happen: A) eventually there will be no more coins as they will all be "lost" in the mail.
    B) you will be lucky enough to buy your coins back on either Ebay or Teletrade...ahhh the circle of life.
