TootawlTootawl Posts: 5,877 ✭✭✭
Is it Silver American Eagle as in SAE
or is it American Silver Eagle as in ASE
or is it American Eagle Silver as in AES??

I usually use SAE.

I always call them "Silver Eagles" because "American" seemed a bit obvious.
  • I just call them SE'simage

SAE is correct. It also differentiates from GAE, gold american eagles.

The Mint calls the bullion series American Eagles, so you have American Eagles Silver, American Eagles Gold, etc. Dealers call them Silver Eagles, Plat Eagles, & Gold Eagles.
PCGS calls the gold & silver models Eagle and the Plat model Statue Lib.

that military thinking is sure hard to shake lose!! i've been out for almost 25 years now and where i work, you gueassed it, we're on military time. it cracks me up when we get a new younger guy in who struggles with the 24 hr. clock at first.

back to the eagle, SAE or ASE seem to be the two interchangeable acronym's. my preference is SAE but they both work. i guess it says something for the platinum coins that they aren't referred to as APE's!!

  • I collect them and I say " I want to buy some SAE's "and the dealers seem to know what I mean image

  • I call them SAE's but as dog has already stated they are technically American Eagle Silver Proof or BU Coins.

  • I predict the term BULLION (for coins) will be phased out in a couple of years, as soon as the old timers get with the program! BOY, if they only would have looked in their CRYSTAL BALLS and seen it coming!
