If you think that you must see the backside of this coin in order to conclude that it is a beautiful coin, I have included an image of a woman whose reverse isn't visible. Do you need to see her other side to conclude she is beautiful? Translation:The reverse is FUGLY AS HELL.
Dragon-..........I,m certainly not wanting to get into a Pushkinesque type debate with you on the toneing issue, since I,m far less intelligent on the subject as many are here. Why did I say AT?Well..I guess the snowflake effect made me think that mainly.Didnt Bob(Campbell)mention this in the AT video? I need to review the thing again maybe.I have no real ground to stand on but if PCGS thinks its NT,then who am I to say different. But could you admit that it MAY be possible that its AT and PCGS is maybe willing to give benefit of the doubt in this case, since it has striking eye-appeal?
I was not trying to start a big debate thing with you, I was just curious why you thought it was an AT'd coin.
I will also point out something regarding that AT tape that many people here viewed.......many of the telltale signs that he made mention of regarding whether or not a toned coin was original or doctored were meant to be general guidelines or possible things to look for, not set in stone. Not every coin whether real or doctored up falls under any 100% specific rules or guidelines, and each piece must be evaluated on a case by case basis.
Ok,No argument here.I,m just ,,,,,have become more and more skeptical the older I get.Not that I want to be confrontational,or contridicting jst not going to be gulible about things.Toned coins especially. Dont believe anything you hear, and only half of what you see,is my motto.
It seems to me that every NT coin I've seen has a deep patina to it. This coin looks sort of flat.
The woman, on the other hand, doesn't seem to suffer from that problem!
.....GOD
"Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you." -Luke 11:9
"Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might." -Deut. 6:4-5
"For the LORD is our judge, the LORD is our lawgiver, the LORD is our king; He will save us." -Isaiah 33:22
I have an 1879-S MS65 Morgan in an old style green PCGS holder for which I paid $70. For that kind of money and one grade better I would need to get the girl too. The big premium for toned coins IMO seems risky right now, considering the content of recent threads and the developing skills of the AT doctors.
<< <i>I think the purple toning on the girl is AT, I want to dip her >>
LOL!!!! I don't want to dip her, I want to harshly clean her! As for the coin, very pretty, I don't believe it to be AT'd. I do feel like a scan of the reverse is in order as both side of the coin could have come inot contact with completely differnt toning catalysts. We don't even know if it's blast white or toned from what I read. Anaconda does have a solid reputation, so I would assume that if the reverse was FUGLY as someone else sugested, he would not hide the fact to make a quick buck. It's probably just an average Reverse, nothing special in the way of toning so he didn't scan it.
A little off topic and probably will put me in the doghouse on the board. I think that the premium for a toned coin is way too high. I t encourages unethical practices and as the prices rise so will the sophistication of AT methods. Not to say anything about this coin one way or the other. I do not have enough experience or knowledge yet on coins. But I have enough on observations on human nature to know that the difference will become harder to recognize in the future. This guy does have some beautiful coins though. Not my cup of tea (you toneheads haven`t converted me yet). But I still can appreciate their uniqueness and beauty. His presentaton is original and interesting. I did find it amusing. My apologies to Michelle and the other ladies on the board if my observation offends them. But it is clever.
coinrookie purple monsters aren't my cup of tea either. Mainly because I stick with what I know and I haven't opened any original mint sacks to see those kind of coins sitting on the top to proclaim "It's real!" But the true tone experts know. I've seen enough funky toners in GSA holders to accept that's it's 99% original. Another advantage to PCGS changing slab designs every several years; you can keep track of the grading standards and the coin doctor's evolution from that era and be better informed and make your own decisions to the originality & value.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

Hey Cam40! I know you don’t know me, but I generally don’t try to mislead people or take advantage of them. It's bad for business, in my opinion. I give a 7 day no questions asked return privilege on coins I sell, I always don't charge extra for my expenses in sending coins to buyers, and will refund the expenses any buyer incurs if they return the coin to me within 7 days of their receipt of the coin, and ask me for a reimbursement of their actual expenses in returning the coin. What this means is that a buyer who returns a coin to me will lose no money (if he pays with a check) and asks me to reimburse him for his actual expenses in returning a coin. Does anyone else do that, as a matter of policy? Just curious.
The reverse on this coin, in my opinion, is pretty decent. Below is a link to an image of the reverse and it’s obverse as it appears in a mirror underneath the coin, so if you can make your way to the image, (if my image ends up being accessible to you; I'm still not comfortable with the mechanics of all of this) you can decide for yourself. The coin straddles two stacks of yellow post-it-type notes, and the whole shebang (set-up) rests on top of a mirror. The photo shows the reverse and a mirror image of the obverse, so you can see I'm shootin' straight. Sorry it took me so long to explain that but I wanted to make sure you understood what the picture shows.
I actually was trying to articulate an opinion, but I guess I was too obtuse (didn't come right out and say what i meant in straightforward terms). If the coin’s reverse was ugly, would it still have been a beautiful coin? Did you need to see the girl’s other side to conclude she was beautiful? In my opinion, and the statement I was trying to make was 'a coin with a gorgeous obverse is a beautiful coin, no matter what the reverse looks like, like the girl. She, like the coin, is a stunner even if her reverse isn't perfect'. I probably should just makes things a little simpler so everyone can understand, right?
PS: There are other board members here that offer full return postage and fees here too. I do- Tad of Supercoin does and I think Dog97 does (among others, I'm sure).
Yeah, sure, you've got a mirror, but where's the smoke?
Almost every time someone is trying to sell an expensive (a) nicely toned coin, (b) modern coin, or worst of all (c) both these comments come up. Don't sweat it.
BTW, re: who else has a similar return policy, I do (full refund including postage both ways if customer feels it's misdescribed). I suspect yours is used as rarely as mine. Hmm... why is that??
The reverse of that coin actually looks quite nice. I would also imagine that you would not have to be bitten by a Dendroaspis polylepis, or a Bitis gabonica to understand the meaning of pain and suffering.
I offer free shipping and a return but have never offered refund on postage. Never had anything returned anyway because I properly describe my stuff & start bids @ .01¢.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.
I've never had a mamba or a Gaboon viper, but I have had a puff adder, rattlers and copperheads. I worked for Bill Haast at the Miami Serpentarium one summer and carried out the King Cobras (in a box) for his performances. I don't keep poisonous snakes anymore. I have too much to lose now. Ever try to make a point without an index finger?
I know quite a bit about pain and suffering. It goes with the territory.
Adrian-The reverse looks great. Why even hesitate to show it.Sorry but I think saying`Do you really need to see the rev??.LOOK AT THE OBV!!! You dont need to see the rev do you?Nah forget the rev..`just sends up a HUGE red flag.To me its like a barker trying to stir you in some joint ,making exaggerated claims of whatever hes barking about. Anyway....I,d take Vendella over ANY coin ANY day. She makes your Morgan look like Susan B Anthony.
edited to add,That reverse aint fugly at all.My initial comment did seem appropriate though being the skeptic I am.Now,I stand corrected.Rev is just as nice,if not nicer, than the obv.
Hey Adrian. I used to go to the Serpentarium when I was a kid visiting my Dad when he lived on SW 111th St. Haas used to bring out the 20ft King Cobra to milk it and then force feed it. It was right out in the open and people were standing within a few feet of him. One time he was milking a very deadly viper by the cages on the perimeter when it got away from him and slithered into the crowd. People ran so fast that they were tripping all over each other. It was(is) a cool place. I used to have dreams about falling into the moccasin and croc pits though. I assume(hope) that they have since put up fencing around those pits. Remember Shorty's BBQ on South Dixie? Great BBQ and the best corn on the cob I ever had.
ANACONDA: I think you should have included pics of dog97's wife along with that other women's picture just to show that you are not heavyhanded about these women's issues. But do9g97 wife's might charge you royalties.
Actually I really like the reverse more than the obverse!

I'd be interested to know why you think that piece is artificially toned.
