80's Special Results: opinions please

Got back my 40 1980 Topps BB from PSA a few days ago. I finished checking my elaborate preview grades against the final results. I wonder how I did in relation to some of you other submitters?

My estimates (2 10s), got 2 9s, (30 9s), got back 21 9s, 1 9OC, and 8 8s, (8 8s), got back one 9 and 7 8s .

I understand the 1980 Topps are in better shape in general than say 1973 or 1958, cards I sent in previously, but I seem to have got comparable ratios and missed-grades on those submissions too. Is my pre-grading about average ? How have others done ? Just curious...

I sent in 120, hoping for 9's on all but a few (I don't predict 10's), and got 2 10's, 72 9's, the rest 8's except for a few 9PD's, a very few 7's, and a 5. The PD's were paper bubbles that I missed. The 5 had to have been a wrinkle that I still can't see.

It looks like you did about the same as I did (you got 60% 9 or better and I got 62%). I have heard people say they can predict 95%. I can't do that, certainly not on these.

I sent in one lot of 39. Got 34 9s, 4 8s, and a 10. Three of the 4 8s, I feel, were downgraded due to centering. Other than that I feel everything was graded well. It's hard to predict 10s for 80 topps because it seems there's always something wrong with the card, even in the smallest way. I have a couple of other lots in now for a total of 110 cards and we'll see how that goes.

Call them on the phone and make some gentle pained whimpering noises. They might be able to get it un-stuck.
