Mint Roll Question

I generally collect Morgans/Peace/Mercs/Franklins however due to comments by Russ, et al. I feel at least intrigued by a few "moderns".

My question is how do you get a real "mint roll". I've never even seen one.

Thanks!

In my experience it's been the luck of the draw. A long time ago, like in the 80s, I got a few rolls of unc pennies every year almost (where did I put those?). The latest was a few rolls of TN quarters I got from a friend of mine who worked at a restaurant. H had to crack them open for change and saw they were all new D-mint TNs and he snagged 3 or 4 rolls for me. I suppose you can ask at the bank, like I used to do in the 80s, but I still ended up cracking at least one roll to be sure they are all uncs. I haven't seen an unc roll of pennies from a bank in a long time though.
  • When I went to the bank early this week, I bought a roll of quarters in one of those plastic shrink-wrap like casings. I could see from the edges that the coins where brilliant. Both ends showed the obverse of a D mint statehood quarter. When I opened them, I found that they were an entire roll of Louisiana quarters. I carefully rewrapped them and put them away for when I want to search them or perhaps sell them unsearched.

Long story short--I just turned up at the right place at the right time with the right request.
The strangest things seem suddenly routine.

Now that I think about it, I think I squirreled away a few rolls of 84-P Lincolns way back when, I bet they might be worth something now, just for the chance at a DD. I never opened them.

With a few exceptions (state quarters and the first Sacs to name a couple) the mint doesn't roll coins. They are shipped out in bags and subcontracted to places like Brinks. They do the rolling. Technically not mint rolls, but they would be uncirculated if new. image

Unless you're referring to mint rolls as in "mint state" rolls, in which case I misunderstood. image
