Do card companies put out too many GU cards?

I think so. Back when they first started making them, they were HOT and very hard to get but now some packs come with one per and anyone can get their hands on them. Some of the ideas are crazy too. Who wants a piece of a wall, or seat, or even a ball? They have nothing to do with that particular player. Bats, jerseys, shoes are fine because that player used them but did that player sit on that seat on the card? I highly doubt it. The cards have become so abundant u can buy on for $2-$3 on becket or ebay.

i agree 110%...thats why my collection consists of mainly autos, cause the player actual signs the card...or maybe jersey, cause the player wore it...whats with this ball, base, floor, wall, dirt, etc (R@P?!

rarely do you see a gu go for $2. Mostly they go around $4 on ebay, sometimes around $3 if its a really cheap one($10 common). Some go for over book, or over half book though. I usually try to get collections of them, or multicolored ones.

Bases, Benches, Balls are ways of getting around the licensing or whatever. I dont' think anybody can produce Vladdy Game-Used Jerseys, mabye bats, except Donruss, not sure though. Ichiro has a deal with Upper Deck, that's why they only have Game-used of him. (I think)

i agree as well, too many GU, like i remember i got my first GU a 99-00 UD Game Jersey Allen Iverson. i thought that was the coolest thing ever! (spent 3 bucks on a pack and pulled that) but now it's just like not even a big deal to get one, i like autos, good rookies, and i also like multicolored jerseys too, especially patch ones that you can tell ware on the jersey it came from, those are nice and rare

I think it's fine.
Of course they were cooler to have when they were 1:2500 packs but it's nice that you can now buy a kobe jersey for $25 instead of $500.

It's fun pulling a GU, no doubt, but when it's of a no name player worth $8, it takes some away I think. Like Private Stock putting in a GU every pack. Sounds good except most are worthless common players. I try to stick to autos, multicolored jerseys, or auto'ed jerseys.

Actually I think they should put out a little less BUT with bigger swatches. It's ridiculous how small they are on some cards now a days.

i agree. to many gu are in packs. i myself have pulled 10 in 6 mounths. i rarely buy packs. i do like the seats. i have an arod seat card. the seat came from the yankee stadium. the seat is a piece of history because it is an old seat. some are outragous like wristbands,turf, and wall.

i think its so funny when they have game used dirt.

When i tell my uncle about my game used cards, he says, "How do you know its not the players jockstrap?" THen i get all freaky around my cards...

We both like the GU cards but suggest that they limit the # that are actually made.BAP Hockey does that.Most of thier GU are limited to 90 or 100 of each & that's it.Even if you get one of a regular player you still have something of value.Commons are valued at $40/$50.

Kind of sad when you see Kobe GU going on eBay for $20.Some of these guys must do nothing all day but put on & take off hundreds of warmups/jerseys just so they can claim they were worn by them.

Baseball/football/basketball & some hockey card companies should rethink the way they offer the GU.It would sure be more fun pulling something that has some value even tho you might not have as many out there.

As far as the wall or seat cards,the only one we ever wanted was a Ripken seat card.That seat came from old Memorial Stadium in Baltimore.I went to many a game there so it had some meaning.
On the other hand,we just traded for a Tiki Barber(he's from our home town) ball card & this GU ball card was the most ridiculous card we have ever seen!On the back,it told us this piece of ball came from a game that the Giants not only lost but Tiki only gained 2 yards in! ! LMAO.Why would they even make this card! I can't wait to show this card to Tiki when he does his camp here next year.I know he'll get a kick out of it.I'll have him Auto it so at least it will be personalized for us.
