Fun with Pennies!

I went to the bank today and got a bunch of pennies for the kids at church, they are having a penny offering next week to raise funds for missionaries. So I looked through the pennies first, and grabbed out all the wheaties, and it was kinda neat, I found 16 total and here are the dates: 1-1958-D, 1-1955, 1-1950-S, 1-1948-D, 2-1946-S, 1-1945-D, 3-1944-S, 1-1942-D, 1-1942, 1-1941-S, 1-1941, 1-1926 and 1-1921-S! The 21-S was in G to VG, nothing spectacular, but full rims and all the letters in tact. Over 80 years old, and a mintage of only 15 million, not bad for a penny!

Thats the most fun part of collecting.Going through stuff non-collectors always overlook. They dont know about varietys, RPMs , RPDs,and DDO/Rs.
I dig going through bank rolls of ANY denomination.Always somethng in there to save.
    I,m a packrat at heart though.image
  • Congrats You found more wheats in one sitting than I have found in 10 years of going through rolls.
Know where I can pick up a genuine 1804 Bust Dollar in the $300 to $350 range?
  • My wife worked for a small bank with about 5 employees....it just so happened that the manager was a real close
friend of hers. Every Friday night for about 2 months I was allowed to go & sit on the floor in the back & go through bagged coins....
    It was soooo cool. image

I get a few wheats every now and then, but today is going to be my fun. A friend of mine at church is also a bank manager and he culled all the half dollars from their branches in the area and collected them for me to get this afternoon. Around $100 worth of halves. And they told him they are not 2002s. So hopefully I'll get some good ones and then reintroduce the city to the half!!!

I got a 1937 in change in Fine condition the other day. I haven't gotten a wheatie back in change in quite awhile until then.
