spree for van exel swap?, dissing stackhouse (it's so true tho), despite desmond's wedding, shard ta

Dallas - Despite denials from Mavs' owner Mark Cuban the press in New York continue to point toward a trade for the Knicks to obtain Nick Van Exel. Now the name of Latrell Sprewell has replaced those earlier mentions of Kurt Thomas and Charlie Ward in the rumored deal. Knicks GM Scott Layden did not specifically address this new change in the possible offering for Van Exel but did say in quotes published, "if we can improve we will do that."

Detroit - Nobody can question whether off guard Jerry Stackhouse is a talented player because he is definitely among the league's elite off guards, especially after finally learning how to become a team player last season. However, his inability to shoot or protect the ball effectively and his lack of solid one on one defensive skills mean that although Stackhouse is an excellent player, he should not be considered a long term "franchise player".To say that Stackhouse is not a franchise player is not a knock on his game or personality. It is just that a slasher who can't shoot above 40% is not going to take his team very far.

Seattle - Current negotiations between Rashard Lewis, his agents, Carl and Kevin Poston, and the Sonics are not at the point of no return, but there will definitely be a certain amount of tension today as Lewis joins his Sonic teammates and members of the front office in Kauai, Hawaii for the wedding of third-year Sonic swingman Desmond Mason.

  • I think that Stack can be a franchise player in Detroit. Last season he learned that he doesn't have to carry the team anymore and that made him and the team better. With the addition of Billups, who is a big upgrade over Atkins on defense, that should make Stack even better. I think the only position they have to worry about is SF and either White or Prince should be able to develop and take over that job.
