I think the Oregon is one of the absolute best designs of any US coin. This one is a beauty. I just sold a 67 for under 400 and since this one is a lot nicer I'd pay up to a grand for it. It's still a high mintage piece with a lot of high grade survivors.
I've always been drawn to Indian motifs, but this coin design would attract me even if that weren't the case. I owned a PCGS MS68 once that I regret selling. It wasn't toned nor did it sell for anywhere near this Legend piece, but was magnificent to look at just the same: link. There's so much high relief detail on these coins that captures your eye.
Both of those links reveal a most awsome coin. The NGC heavily toned coin appears to be lit from about 6 o'clock and nearly at the surface ! Deep shadows and all surfaces facing the light are naturally highlighted. There's quite a difference in the lighting of the Heritage Coin in that it appears to have been lit from 7 o'clock and a little higher above the surface of the coin.. I agree that it is one of the most beautifully designed... Ken
I, too think that the Oregon Trail is one of the best designs of the commems. My wife bought me a NGC Ms64 1938 for my 60th Birthday and I just love it.
Anaconda...scans work fine for me. Another super coin!!!
Beautiful coins all! But in my income bracket the value issue comes into the equation regarding which coin I'd buy. $400 for coynclecter's MS-67 or $14,000+ for the beautifully toned 68. My sense of value says buy the $400 (my wife would be quick to agree ). Mr. Gates, Mr. Walton ... it's all yours.
The longer I live the more convincing proofs I see of this truth, that God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice is it possible for an empire to rise without His aid? Benjamin Franklin

<< <i>That one, along with the 69, was one I spent a lot of time looking at in Heritage's ANA inventory.

Not a 69, but it's a lot cheaper than a 69!
