Can someone explain why my images dont show up even though other times they do?

I have a pic in my signature AND on my site and sometimes they load, and sometimes they dont. I have them uploaded to villagephotos.com and i can normally view the pics on my website, but sometimes they just show an, "X." HOW COME?
