Opinions please? - New Kennedy half - should I send it?

Hey guys... With breathless anticipation, I tore the package open. Out pops the 1969 proof set I was waiting for.
In it - a nice black nickel, a pretty fair dime, a nice quarter, and - this:

It's actually a bit frostier than it appears in the photo. There are no frost breaks that I can see.
There's some "icky" spots here and there... but overall, looks like a fair coin to me. (for $15)

What do you think? Should I take the "big risk" and set 'er in to PCGS????

What would YOU rate it? (be nice, Morris) image

Looks like a 70DCAM to me.

Sending one coin worth under $100 is not worth it in my opinion as the postage fee's make it too expensive. If you get more to go with it maybe 5 or 6 then yes. Of course I don't know the value of the coin in the picture I think pr69(cam-dcam) is about the max you can get at pcgs right now from what others have been posting.

Its probably is not worth the cost and effort in sending the coin in, but sometimes you just got to do what you got to do. If Russ thinks it looks nice, then go for it and take a shot. Bearimage

  • Nice coin, if you send it to pcgs just make sure to check the no fingerprint option on the submission sheet.image

I may be a noob, but 70 is not possible, even for my imagination.
Looks like a couple of visible scratches in the fields. Even if they're smears,
70 is just a nice thought.

Dan C - Dreams are what make average working people buy lottery tickets when the odds are 150 million to one. Anyway a PR 69-DC aint all that bad. Bear

I agree, if you save up a bunch of coins send it in. I'm working on a bulk load to go in, but it also has 69 Kennedy's so I can't throw it in for you. (would not want any problems). Looks like a 68 or 69 DCAM. I would take the chance and get it graded (remember take the graders down to TJ, feed them Tequila and get them laid), you might get you 70!!!image
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

Mad Marty - Why didnt you devulge the secrets of getting high grades, before I wasted a small fortune on disappointments. Woe is me, oh woe is me. Bearimage

It won't be a 70; I would be thrilled for a 69 D/C from a $15 purchase. If it looks perfect under magnification, you might get your 69 D/C!

  • I don't know... the more I look at it, the more it looks like a straight CAM.

When I hold it next to a certified DCAM, it doesn't *quite* have the frost, or the depth. Close... but not quite.

I'm thinking PR68CAM, or PR67DCAM (if the tequila works)
    but... I'm kinda guessing.

Russ will peruse it closely tomorrow under his glaring lights and magnification...

Nice coin. I could see it a PR69 or PR72 if you send it to ACG image

Me, I am always nice. Looks like a 69cam from the scan, but with your "scratches" in the field, can't really expect much above 67...unless they are striations. If they are striations, I have seen some 69 coins with them, but the way they are grading don't expect much above 68cam for a one coin submission.

let us know if and when you send the coin in...my advice would be no by the way since from the scan the coin looks like a cam at the most. The reverse doesn't even look like a DCAM, let alone the obverse. Sorry if this sounds mean, just my humble opinion. Save your money, still a good pickup for $15.

    Dan,

It's a very nice PR68 Cam with a bath. I'd be happy with it for what you paid. BTW - can I see the nickel, I might be able to help reduce the cost of the half!

BTW - Russ, the samples came in, and I'll mail yours tomorrow.
