2002 $10 Gold American Eagle Price

At the US Mint, the 2002 ¼ oz. American Eagle Gold Proof Coin (Z23) sells for $150 but I noticed that some people on ebay are selling them for well below that $150. I even saw a buy it now for $89. (ie.
Auction )

and here is an Auction for $129-PCGS MS69

I don't get it? Purchase at $150, sell for cheaper? Am I missing something?

  • They're either in it(the mint)to make a buck or somebody on ebay is losing a buck.

I belive "dealers" get a discount.
  • Because the coin being offered is uncirculated not proof. You can buy these for around $80 to $85 off of ebay or from Tulving when in stock. (Slabbed by PCGS is extra! image)

The real crime is that you can't buy the MS coins directly from the mint and the mark-up on the proof coins is absurd.
