Geez Louise -- 1974 Topps set

Looks like Ebay has something like 20% of the entire set available in PSA 9 currently -- all as individual lots.

I am sure that Carkim is reeling on this one!

1974 Topps PSA 9 cards on Ebay
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

  • I'm looking everywhere, but I can't find this Geez Louise person in the '74 Topps Registry.

Is the set that desirable? No offense intended, but that is about $5,000 to $6,000 worth of opening bids.

    (Typo corrected . . .)
  • This tells me that it's insane to pay high prices for 70s stuff. There is probably a ton of high grade 70's stuff out there that will someday be graded mint.

    Looking for:
Any high grade OPC Jim Palmer
    High grade Redskins (pre 1980)
  • That's a bit rich for 1974 PSA 9's. I haven't been actively grading the '74's lately but from what I recall, common PSA 9's usually sell for around $20. I bought a 642 Terry Harmon PSA 9 a while back for $35 and that's one tough card in high grade. It's always OC and usually has a bad print smudge at the bottom border. I wouldn't pay $35 for non condition sensitive commons. There's still a ton of unopened material out there which results in a lot of high grade raw material out there. People just aren't willing to submit them when 8's don't even fetch back the grading fees.

I've got a few hundred Mint 1974 commons that I've been sitting on waiting for the market conditions to improve. I know there are a decent percentage of 9's in there but I'd likely get a fair amount of 8's and even a few of the unavoidable 7's. I'm sure there are many other collectors and dealers that are sitting on pristine commons that they are not submitting.

    Hence:

This set should be attainable in PSA 9 or better condition by year-end or next year. Just a matter of who (if anyone) is willing to put up the $$$ for the set in such shape.

I sold a PSA 9 '74 Topps Vida Blue a few months back for $40.00. Vida Blue isn't a 100% common; he's an Athletic and has a fan base, so maybe this is the going rate, I don't know. Anyway, though, I bought the card for $22.00 about seven months before that. I have a PSA 7 and 8 of the same card that I picked up for just about nothing but am still afraid to put them on Ebay.

I would rather buy the cards raw ($2.00 mint), and send them in myself ($6.00)

In building the 75 set, I've seen PSA EIGHTS(!) occasionally go in the $20+ range. Unless it's a card that's really easy in 9 (Segui, May, Tyson, Lindblad, etc), 75T PSA9s are all over $40 each.

I'm with Carlos. . .when I'm at National this week, it's pretty unlikely that I'll buy any already-graded cards at all. There's more than enough really sweet submittable stuff so. . .
So full of action, my name should be a verb.
