Home Buy, Sell & Trade - Cards & Memorabilia

what is the average cost to send a card.

when i started trading here on this board i only send via fedex and ups a couple of time i send fedex with a prepaid return fedex next day
i no longer do that it got to expensive, i have made trade with people on this board that have send me cards in postcards, regular mail and a couple of time i made trade and never recieved i won't mention names cause they trade on this board and have a good rep here and i just figure it got lost in the mail i do get mad when they can't prove they send but that's the way it goes sometime, and why do people get made when you sell a card at half the bv then add the shipping cost, if i send via certified mail with return reciept requsted it cost me 2.50, 4 cards 4.85 (depend if i send in top loader of screw down) and that so i have proof that i send the card, i don't do that with money order cause you can track those even thought it takes 30 days (but i alway keep the recieptt)

  • Whenever sending in regular envelope, send in penny sleeve/top loader/team bag. I have yet to have a problem with it. But when sending something somewhat expensive, use a bubble mailer. I suggest mailing it at the post office and retain your receipt.
  • usually if its 1 or 2 cards it was 45 cents. That was in top loaders and bubble package. Now that they raised their prices i dunno. Probably like .50 or something
  • If im sending one card (to teh US) it usually costs me 37 cents (the price of one stamp nowadays). I print out two copies of teh trade agreement and wrap the card in those two peices of paper so its basically secure. THe card also has a pennysleeve and toploader. If it outside the US, whether its one card or 5 cards, i always send in a bubble mailer because i think its easier for them to lose a regular envelope. ON expensive trades (only to us) i will insure it and i will get a receipt from the post office that i sent. Hope this Helps!
Rest in peace Josh, we'll all miss you
  • By the way- its always better to send in a bubble mailer outside the US because you cant insure it once the package leaves our country!

i've never had anything lost in the mail (KNOCK ON WOOD)... the USPS isn't as bad as people say it is... u just send it securely and everything should be fine... if it does happen to get lost, just replace it... i mostly do low-end trades anyways so it's not a big deal to replace lost cards...

  • Hey if someone owes you cards forget the rep that they have it shouldn't stop you from listening there name ....................

I send either priority or priority insured and always in a bubble mailer that costs me an extra $4.75 per trade. It does add up but it makes it easy to track the cards and know when they have received the item..

I even do that with people I have traded with many times you just don't know things sometimes do happen with the USPS

That makes me feel a little safer when I do trades

The way trading is going today you can't take any chances on any trade............
    Ref's many

    Looking for Marino, Ripken Auto's,Gu & Rc's

  • I too (KNOCK ON WOOD) have not had any cards lost or stolen from teh mail yet. I only send cards with the regular mail if their BV is low. Anything higher i always insure. If for some reason it was lost, i am not sure what i would do. Depends if my cards were "lost" too!

  • If I'm doing a trade with someone, I expect them to send the card or cards in bubble mailer. I don't care if it is only 1 card. I've had plain envelopes ripped open when they got to me with the card still in there. For as cheap as bubble mailers are, I don't see why people don't always use them.

because not everyone is rich... i have a lot of other things to spend my $$$ on and it doesn't revolve around bubble mailers... i have never had one complaint about my cards or the way i send them, and i have made well over 100 trades in my lifetime... if the trade invloves more expensive cards, i will send in a bubble mailer... but if it's low-end or just commons, a plain white envelope is all they see...

  • i agree even if it is a 10ct card you should make sure the card gets there in the same condition as it was when it was in your hands.

i agree also... but i can get it there in the same condition in a plain white envelope... if u think i'm gonna spend $1 or so on a bubble mailer and then postage as well for a 10 cent card, then u are crazy... none of my cards have ever been damged and i guess it just takes a little common sense on how to know how to pack 'em...
    imageimageimageimageimage
  • well if it get there in the same condition i guess that's fine but i see a lot of post where one person sends a card and it's late and all of a sudden people are jumping to conclusion that your trying to rip them off, i think that can be avoided if one sends certified mail cause you have the receipt in hand and can always provide a scan.

and then half the people couldnt' trade, such as myself, because we'd be spending more on shipping than the actual cards... remember, this is all fun and it's a hobby, but in the end, it's only cardboard... live life a little more fun and spend your money elsewhere... if it's an expensive trade, it's a no-brainer to send insured, bubble mailer, etc... if it's a common or insert, get a penny sleeve, toploader, and plain white envelope... i see nothing wrong with that...

If you spend $1.00 on a bubble mailer you're getting really ripped off. I buy 100 Bubble mailers at a time for 9.99 plus 5.01 shipping. That is 100 mailer for 15.00. That is $0.15 per bubble envelope. I think fifteen cents is well worth never having a problem. I'm not saying you have had a problem, just that I feel safer sending in a bubble mailer.

$.15 per bubble mailer is a very good price... but u also gotta add more postage and u also gotta go to the P.O. to drop 'em off... i have a mail slot outside my apartments where i drop my mail... never had a problem... i work full-time, Monday-Friday, 8am-5:30pm, which are pretty much the same hours as the P.O.... it's hard to revolve your life around sports cards, which is why i revolve sports cards around my life... like i said, i have never had a problem before so why change? it's just not worth it especially for low-end cards... i understand what most of u are saying, but i don't agree with it...

Not tring to change ya THiTo but if it makes a difference you can drop of a bubble mailer with your at your apt office and it will go out with the office mail. (thats if it wont fit in the mail slot) and most of the time 2 stamps will cover anything.

  • I always send out in a bubble mailer and in toploaders for reg cards... and have sent in Single Screw Downs for more expensive cards. The cost of mailing isnt an issue to me as long as the trade is worth some value.
