1969 Topps continues on its torrid pace

Bob (Cacamese) I see that you placed several 1969 cards with low pops on e-Bay and they lasted only a few hours. Congratulations on your swift sale. Also, I see that Dan Markel is quietly ascending towards the top position in the 1969 registry. Strong work! I look forward to seeing everyone at the national. I thought the 1969 PSA 10 Suarez belonged to me at $225 to $250. Obviously, I was very wrong, but I'm still standing tough.

It's good to see the strong prices for low pop '69s. What I'm a bit disappointed in is the lack of depth. After the first few hit the market, the prices rapidly drop to under $10, particularly with PSA 8's. A good example is the PSA 8 Tug McGraw. Though it has a high population, he's a popular player and this card is part of the Miracle Mets team set. I would think there would be many '69 set builders and Mets team collectors interested in this card but it usually sells for around $10. I wonder if this happens with similar cards from other years around this era.

Good luck at the National. I wish I was going. image
  • Gemint,

The recent sale of the George Thomas card in PSA 9 dissapointed me. I know it is within a "vending" run of the 6th series, but still $50 was a bit low in my opinion. I thought the card would end up near the $150 area so I laid off in order to conserve for the national. Despite this, there are cards on e-Bay that I simply could not ignore. How likely is it that you are going to come across a 1969 PSA 10 that you need at the national? The Tug McGraw is reachable in PSA 9, thus this may be hurting the PSA 8 version.

  • I see Mintexpress selling a lot of 1969 stars in PSA 8 and 9. I'm guessing that these were formerly in the first GASPIPE set. I figured these would show up at their table at the National. Nice grouping of cards to say the least.

Yes there the ones from the 1st set. I will be trying to get them back. Especially if 1 or both of my horses win tomorrow. LOL Although I've sold alot of the low POP's. I will be trying to get my stars back. Hopefully.
  • Bob,

Good luck on your races tomorrow. By the way, I see that MintXPress also sells "alliances" in addition to consignments and cards outright. I never thought I would see the day when companies would be transacting "alliances".

    Hi Ron,

Unfortunately I won't be able to attend the National this year. But I would likely be interested in some of the PSA 8 NQ 1969's that you are flipping. I needed a few from several of the Mint Express lots but did not want to commit to buying 20 cards when I only needed a few. If you're interested in selling any before the show, PM me or email me at 'gemint@charter.net'.

    Thanks.
