I've been asking that same question...but hey, he's still having a great season. He just had a bad month, but that'll all change this month. Seems like every pitcher goes thru a dry spell every now and then, and Tom has had it bad lately...but don't expect it to last long. image

I heard that ole' Bobby may want Smoltz back in the starting rotation. I think he should stay at closer, b/c of his arm and is dominance. Whatdya think.

Hell yeah! That sucks! I wouldn't put Smoltzie back in the starting rotation! I mean, the guy has 39 saves which is tied for the Braves record and he's on pace to break the all-time save record which is held by Bobby Thigpen which he had 58 of them. He'll break that easily if he keeps up this pace. They're already comparing Smoltzie to Dennis Eckersely...there's no way I'd put him back in the starting rotation...especially because of his arm. I don't think he could handle 5+ innings or so in each start, although you never know...Tommy John surgery does wonders, but I still wouldn't...he's too dominant as a closer...and I'd leave him where he's most comfortable.

Speaking of Chipper, he's not really having a bad season. Yeah, his homerun totals are down (he has 13) but he's now starting to heat up. Here's his stats:

    Games - 108
    At-bats - 379
    Runs - 62
    Hits - 121
    Doubles - 22
    Triples - 1
    Homeruns - 13
    RBI's - 67 (2nd on the team,and like 2 away from being first)
Batting average - .319 (leads team)
    Walks - 68 (leads team)
    On-base % - .421 (leads team)

Look at the average, RBI's, and ONB% and it shows that he's still having a nice productive season as usual. It's just his homerun numbers are down, but he's also extremely clutch as normal. He's probably one of the best clutch players in the majors.

  • Tom GLavine had a blister on his pitching hand! that has been there I know smoltz would dominate but his arm I don't think would hold up to it after that surgery! I think he could win the cy young
Love Chipper jones A real big fan! A huge Atlanta Braves fan! I collect baseball cards only and love to talk about baseball

I think Chipper's production is still less than usual. Look at his stats from 1998-current. His RBI, HR, OPS, and SLG have dropped off alot. I think its just a off year for him, he's gonna rebound next season to his normal .325/35/110.

I agree. Yeah, this is an off-season for him, but it's a pretty good off season if you like at his stats, but they are a little lower than normal. But, he's also starting to heat up...he hit another homerun again today which makes him have 14 Homeruns now and 69 RBI's...Braves lead 2-0...image

Chipper has been on fire lately in the past week and a half or so! Another homer today...
