Why ask for collector opinions, then completely ignore everyone?

What is the point of PCGS asking for constructive criticism of their proposed weights, and then completely ignoring the feedback they receive? Not just sour grapes here that they ignored my ideas on the Jefferson weights, but they didn't make any of the changes that Frank or anyone else suggested either, that I can tell.

I guess PCGS doesn't give a rip, but I am thinking I will pull my registry sets in protest. This changing of the rules after the game has started pisses me off. image

PCGS answers to its stock holders, PERIOD. The majority of which, I assume, are the big wigs we all know.

Therefore, your, mine, and everyone elses' opinions are reviewed, but, in the end consideration is given to what is in the best interest of the "company". I'm sure all ideas are reviewed. But, prior to opening up weighting for comments, I believe ideas submitted have already been considered. I can't believe new ideas by Registry Members have gone unconsidered. Therefore, I believe "new" ideas are previously considered ideas, implemented as a way of allowing "members" to feel a sense of 'belonging".

    IMHO

I had something to say...then realized it was not nice...I decieded to not say it...Something about, "If you don't have something nice to say, the don't say it"...I think I am going to take my own advice here...

They listened to most of our comments on the type sets they weighted.

So the trick is to become a stock holder so PCGS will listen to my ideas on weighing coins? Really. I doubt the average stock holder would care less about "registry weights". Also, if they were clever, they would defer to us- make us happy doing so- and thus see upward trends on their investments!
I don't mind speculation- it's fun and informative to read, but it should be grounded in a tidbit of fact.

Amazing. Have they listened to anyone ever? (that is a real question). The registy is free for you, if you don't like it, leave. Nothing lost until enough people leave that submissions for the game (many of the submissions that they get) stop.

Plain and simple. but hey PCGS is #1 so nothing you will do can ever matter. Just ask most on this board.

dbldie55- I share your bitterness, but over PCI coins now. Of course, due to this bitterness I've completely stopped collecting PCI coins and have stopped submitting anything to them.
    How about you and PCGS?

The registry means nothing to me (plain and simple). I like the looks of PCGS holders, so I have a collection in them. Nothing near the collection of raw or other holders (PCGS refuses to denote varieties). I use them for their looks, nothing else.

Have they weighted Liberty Nickels? ( I think not )

I was being pretty honest in my answer though. I should have a friend of mine buy them, but I doubt he would want a losing investment (yes, it would be pocket change)

I also made the silly statement on the Jefferson Nickel weighting thread that with weighting, why do they need bonuses for RD-RB, CA-DC, FH, FB, FS etc when they could do this with weighting.

Frank thought it was a good idea, do you disagree? It is nothing against the company, but if no one tells them what they are doing wrong, they will not figure it out until they have nothing left. (hate to lose my holders). If they count on people who know nothing about the business (most of the stock holders), then they have already lost the business.

I don't know. It seems PCGS adjusted the way they weighted the type coins and the Kennedies and the Ikes and the Morgans and the Lincolns ALL at the expressed request of REGISTRY SET participants. But, I know- they ALL must be stock owners. No way PCGS would have done all that just to apease the collector!

  • I wrote them suggesting they adopt the changes proposed by Frank Corso. David Hall wrote back saying Frank did a great job and they would check it out and make appropriate changes. I assumed he had checked it out enough to say Frank did a great job. So I guess maybe they had a problem implementing the changes, like maybe they forgot or their dog ate Franks spreadsheet or something.

  • It looks like they made some changes due to feedback, don't know if they match what frank submitted.

See, this is where the TRUTH rises to the top.

are we entering our collections into the PCGS Registry because we enjoy sharing it with other like-minded collectors and the format allows us to see where others are at, where they're headed and in some instances to view their individual coins? or are we there to strut our assembled coins and hold the bragging rights for awhile that we're number whatever? those seem to be the two camps on-board.

as for me and my set, i don't have any intentions of getting wrapped up in it so much that i would "cut off my nose to spite my face" as you said in the opener, mark. you've built a nice set with patient effort and help from many listed above and below you. you've helped me unselfishly to improve my collection. what would running really accomplish besides helping me move up a notch?image

if someone amongst us has the time to draft some kind of a request in the form of an e-mail petition to circulate, perhaps some of us involved could forward something through the proper channels to see if further changes could be made. no need to complain, better to act in some fashion. i'd be willing to help however i can.

you're ahead of me because they have my grade points calculated wrong, an obvious data entry error or something. if you look at my set off the earlier posted link you'll see i have one 68DCAM which should put my grade at a bit under 69. it seems they got the set grade right despite that and i'm sure they'll correct it eventually.
