Great reply Jeff...appreciate the info. I didn't realize ASA... "In-accugrade" is still in business. I still have a few altered cards that they graded as "Gemmint". Maybe I'll send 'em back to Hager.

  • i heard a rumor that some of the other carding companies won't ever give you a non graded card back.... So you can send all your trimmed cards and such...Pretty PatheticMy Website

Maybe it's me, but I would have some reservations sending in my cards to "Snaggletooth Grading". Doesn't leave a good image in my mind.

It's funny you mention Hager, Mantlefan, because I have a Hager story. I met him at the National in Houston in I believe '94 and put down a deposit on some incredibly gorgeous T205s. Needless to say, when I sent him the balance, I never got the cards. Numerous phone calls to him were either ignored or answered with a "check's in the mail" B.S. Well at the National in Cleveland in '97, I looked him up, waited until he had several people at his table and then LOUDLY REQUESTED A REFUND. He scarely missed a beat as he whipped out a was of cash, forked over the amount I was demanding, and kept wheeling and dealing. I thought later that he must have screwed so many people, he just automatically believes someone who says he owes them money.

Straight from the Accugrade website iteself: ASA / Accugrade

Mr. Hager, ASA-Accugrade's founder, is a noted authority on collectables, and has written (7) books on coins and sportscards, and dozens of price guides.
In 1988 he copyrighted the 1 to 10 grading system for sportscards - today's universal standard.
We patented the sportscard slab holder and Trademarked the arrowhead corner design, which is universally used by all services today.
PSA-David Hall has paid $100,000 in Liscense Fees to use the Patented Holder, Copyrighted 1 to 10 grading standards, and Trademarked holders.
ASA has licensed and set up 11 grading services worldwide.
Since 1989 over 3,000,000 sportscards have been graded based on Mr. Hager's inventions.
