can you post a link to the listing?? or an item number?
I am assuming that the coin is insured. If that is the case, a claim cannot be filed until 30 days have passed since it was mailed.

the mail seems to be running decent in areas and bad in others. It took me longer to get something from PA (here in Ohio) than it did for someone in CA to get something from me!

From the tone and agitation of your post I think it best that you avoid ebay from now on, just as you propose. Lighten' up! If you insured the coin then there is a record of it being mailed. If you didn't insure the coin then you made a mistake. Either way, if the guy mailed it on July 20 then harrasing him everyday with emails will not make the coin get to you any faster through the post office. I wouldn't be surprised to see the seller give you a negative with your approach.

You never know what you are going to run into ... I recently bought a PCGS coin from a seller with good feedback, and for whatever reason, it was a MONTH before he shipped it. At least my complaining won me a refund of shipping costs ... and I did ultimately receive the coin. But, he is off my list of sellers.
  • tom.... what would you do.. i just spent 500 bucks on a coin that i bid on july 4th, he recieved funds on july 11th it is aug, and no coin ... i dont care if he gives me a neg, i sent him his money on time all i want is my coin... item #1363780665

I mailed a coin via insured priority over 2 weeks ago from Michigan to San Francisco. As of this afternoon the buyer still has not recieved the coin. And you have to wait 30 days to file a claim. I think the coin will still get there, but who knows where it has been in the meantime. mdwoods

I seem to remember flykite posting to this board, ironically with the same icon as you. I remembered this primarily because of the Ben Franklin - kite connection. Don't assume the worst. It takes 30 days to really take action anyway. It's too hot to get yourself all worked up. Tranquile Senior!

I hadn't realized your purchase was from July 4, however, if it's insured you don't have much to worry about. Print out the ebay auction page to save it as your receipt and use it to recover from the post office if it's lost. The seller shipping the coin July 20 doesn't seem too bad, after all, July 4 was a holiday and he may not have received your money order until July 11-a week after the auction ended, it seems plausible. If he then sat on it for five or so business days as he said he would then he wouldn't be mailing the coin to you until July 18 at the earliest. At this point I think you just need patience. I still don't think it helps to email someone about it everyday unless you think they aren't telling you the truth.

After reading through Flykite's feedback I think the problem more than likely lies with the US Postal Service. I read things like "fast shipment", "quick ship", "fast delivery". It does't look like this person is in the habit of shipping slowly or not shipping at all.

  • I read his feedback as well and it seems like he is a reasonable businessman. I would advise the patient approach as well as additional e-mails will have more of a negative Impact at this point. I know that it is difficult to be patient when you spend your money on the internet and everyday you check your mail and the item hasn't arrived. We have all been threw it, but things will work out in the end, just play with the rest of your coins to get your mind off of not having this one.......that's what I always do!image

  • I have bought over 1000 items on eBay (mostly coins) and sold several hundred. Recently, I bought two items on about the same day from different parts of the country. One showed up yester, July 31, postmarked on July 9; the other hasn't come yet. That seller is being extremely cooperative; basically offering me either a refund or make him an offer on any of his buy-it-nows next weekend without waiting the full 30 days to file a USPS claim.

So, in about 1500 transaction, I've had this one delayed for three weeks; three that I sent never made it (one insured and I just refunded the money --- didn't want to deal with the USPS over a relatively small amount --- in fact, I no longer use USPS insurance for amounts under $50---if someone wanted insurance and says they didn't get it, I'll sned their money back!) I have had two other packages not arrive (one insured and after a long VERY difficult argument with the seller, I finally got my money back) and one uniinsured that I am confident the USPS lost---good seller that I dealt with before, etc. etc. And then I had only one really bad transaction----the seller swears up and down that the mint mark on the MS65 1934 Peace dollar (I think that's what he graded it, but it was really about MS60) was an 'S' when he packaged it and that somehow, someone must have swiched it out for a 'D' in transit----it was clearly the same coin as in his scans (couldn't make out the mint mark in the scans. In this case, neither the seller, nor eBay nor Paypal were any help; but my credit card company looked carefully at my evidence, agreed that I had been defrauded, and refunded my money (and charged Paypal, who proceeded to threaten me for "not following their procedures, which, in fact, I had followed, just they denied my claim).

So to make a long story short, out of about 1,500 transaction, five or six have been lost due to USPS; and there has been one really blatant fraudulant one, that I resolved through the credit card issuer. These things happen, and it is just unfortunate that it happens on your first or second experience on eBay. In this case, the seller should have bought insurance (or he self-insures)---he charged $5 for postage and insurance. If he bought insurance, he needs to wait 30 days to file a claim. It's unfortunate and frustrating---you'd rather have the coin than the money; but I'm sure the seller would rather you have the coin than having to go through dealing with the USPS claim process.

Really, most eBay transaction go very well, especially if you deal with reputable dealers---initially, you can only judge by feedback; but after awhile, you get a feel for some of the good (and bad) dealers by watchiing eBay and by watching this board. One more word of warning---a lot of people give unwarranted GOOD feedback---read the text of several of them. you'll see things in GOOD feedback like "Shipped really fast, but coin was only AU50, not MS65 as claimed". Or "Nice coin, but it took two months to get here". Why anyone considers those positive experiences is beyond me so you need to read more than just the feedback number.

    Good luck,

    Pete
  • I bought from Flykite in 1999, 2000, and 2001. ALL transactions and coins were great. He is a good guy. Work on it and it will be resolved.image

I sell many coins and buy many coins on ebay and there is really nothing you can do in this case. For your ease of mind, you could ask him to scan and email you a copy of the insurance slip to you (I always do that for my customers when there is a delay). YOu just basically have to wait for the 30 days to file a claim...the seller should head that up for, as that is good customer service. You can ask him to get the process started, by sending you out a claim form for you to fill out and sign, saying you did not receive the item, or you can pick one up yourself at the po. That way you can expidite the refund process by having everything filled out before the 30th day and the seller can walk in on the 31st day and give it to the po.

  • It is unfortunate that 'sharpeis went this route; I hope to have
an answer from the PO as to the status of the shipment. I
appreciate and understand the frustration, but at least let
the transaction resolve itself one way or another, and THEN
    speak your peace!!

I mail several packages a day and the postal service is very slow at the present time. Three packages I mailed from Maryland (2) to New York and (1) to New Jersey, took over 3 weeks to get there. I know how frustrating it is wanting your coin, but there isn't anything the seller can do to speed up the postal service. Many are leary of cashier's checks due to the volume which are being forged. Case in point is the guy entering the U.S. with the millions of dollars of fraudulent ones. Please look at the whole picture and place yourself in the seller's shoes.

  • Postal service informs me the coin is at the local PO; notification
was left 7/26; hope this resolves things, as my reputation as an
