I got a 71 Kennedy PR69CAM (was hoping for DCAM) and 9 yes count them 9 77 Ikes at PR69DCAM
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

  • I sent in a 1930-S buffalo nickel that I bought as an MS64 for $160. Came back as MS65!!!...I thought it would.image
Buy the coin, not the holder!

I sent in a raw 36-D Washington that I paid high 65 money for and it came back 66.
Buy the coin...but be sure to pay for it.

I just got back a cal gold BG-1206 that I picked up raw on eBay. This is a period 2 round dollar and very difficult to find in any grade. It came back AU-55. Total pop for the coin is 9 in all grades. Completed my mini type set which is now currently #3. I fedex'd to PCGS and had the grade posted in 9 days and the coin shipped back in 12 days. submission 31952

I'm very pleased with the turnaround and result.

I had a 71-D Kennedy come back MS68. It deserved the grade. I also had 12 69-S Kennedys come back PR69DCAM. Some were overgraded. Overall I think their grading is about the same. Still inconsistent. Worst with the moderns.
  • don't know yet. they received it last Friday, but nothing showing yet.

  • I recently sent my Washington quarter set (1932-1964) in to PCGS for pedigree, and I asked for a few regrades (5, actually). I asked them to regrade my 1935-S, which was in an MS66 holder. I got the upgrade to an MS67 (Pop. 10 now) and I couldn't hardly believe it! I believed the coin was very worthy of the grade, but when there is a $10,000. (yes, you read it right, that's ten thousand dollars, my friend!) jump from one grade to the next, you don't ever figure on getting that particular coin to upgrade. I got lucky! Oddly enough, that was the only upgrade I got out of the 5, but that one coin being the best I could have possibly hoped for. I have had fairly good luck in getting decent grades from PCGS, they've been pretty good to my coins. Just like all of us, I've had my share of coins returned in the dreaded "body bags", too.

I enjoy the challenge, so I continue to hunt for those beautiful, elusive, high-grade raw Washingtons to see if PCGS will give me that sought-after MS67 grade. I haven't made many, but when you do make one, it's great feeling!

Have fun and enjoy this wondeful hobby of ours! I do!

Man, Tom, I would die to see that coin ... any chances of a scan? Great set and I can live with a .200 BA on upgrades if they fall that way!

Thanks for the posts guys, it's nice to see positive comments too. I too would like to see a scan of that 35-S and the 71 MS68 Kennedy.

Ugh, one of my submissions finally had grades posted and half of them are sliders AU-58, the other half are AU-55. I'm going to have to take a hard look at them when they get back. Hopefully, my two other submissions won't be as bad.
