Gotta love these 1964 SMS's! Lots of bang for the buck. The ones I've seen have hard, silvery pearl like surfaces with an absolutely FULL strike.
Low mintage. Beauty and a bit of mystery attached to them. Great coins.

I'm out. I'm saving up for my type set. Frank already has one I'm sure is much nicer. His is a 68 FS. Now if it was cameo like my '65 SMS...

Come to think of it why isn't this coin full step? Weren't the SMS coins struck better with less used dies than regular strikes?

This must be one of the non-full step coins in the pop report. Three of the 15 1964 SMS Jeffs are not full-steps, including two 67s. This must be one of them...

Seriously, this is a dream coin to own in any grade!

It is interesting to note, though, that the '64 SMS has a full step designation, but the '65-'67 SMS issues do not (although they come in CAM and DCAM). My SMS nickels (non-'64!!) have pretty mushy steps.

Good point. I just took a look and my '67 is close to FS, if not FS. My '65 is the worse of the three in every respect, cameo contrast, strike, fields and so on. They are all graded 67 Cam.

Could this have been graded before the designation was given?

I purchased my 1964 SMS MS68FS at this year's FUN show. At that time I examined two SMS, the 2nd a MS67, was not full steps (not even close). I was surprised it did not have full steps since only 10 to 15 were minted.
