Hello, everybody. Welcome to my 50th anniversary giveaway, which also coincides with Thanksgiving 2026.
On November 25th, 1976, when I was just a month shy of my 11th birthday, we were visiting my step-grandmother's big old house in Atlanta for Thanksgiving. Asked to set the table for the upcoming feast, I discovered a 1936 dime in Grandmama's silverware drawer in the sideboard. She let me keep it, and that coin launched my passion for numismatics. I still have it somewhere. So now, on Thanksgiving of 2026, I will celebrate 50 years as a collector. Another giveaway is in order, I suppose.
Now, the prizes.
There are two items (4 coins total), all of which the winner of the drawing will receive.
First, to celebrate the year I began collecting, we have:
Item #1 of 2: a 1976 Bicentennial 3-piece silver proof set.
Includes the Bicentennial quarter, half, and dollar, in original US Mint packaging. Not the best pictures below. Sorry. I saved 'em from the eBay seller I bought the set from.

Addtionally, to celebrate the coin that started my collection 50 years ago, we have:
Item #2 of 2: a 1936-D Mercury dime.
Circulated, but in higher grade. The one I found in 1976 is a Philly mint and this one is from Denver, but it is in better condition than my childhood find.
To enter the drawing:
Just describe what got you into collecting coins.
In as few or as many words as you desire. If you have a story about that, or a photo of your first coin, so much the better.
This contest is a clone of the one on CoinTalk. All entries made here will be copied and pasted over there. The final drawing will be done from the posts in the CoinTalk thread. (In other words, contestants from both sites will be in the same drawing- over there.)
The drawing will be done via random number generator sometime on or after the date mentioned at the top of this post. The timing will depend on my schedule. You may consider the contest open for entries until such time as I have posted the final result of the drawing.
Totally free: the contest is free of charge, open to everyone, with free worldwide shipping. The only further requirement is...
If you win, please post a notice of receipt in this thread after you get the prize, so we'll know you got it (that helps me keep track).
Good luck!
Numismatic regards,
~Robertson ("Rob") Shinnick ("LordM")
