$750 for a half ounce of silver shocked me.

Why? They were selling 2018 Platinum Eagles earlier this year. The mint can stand to leave the inventory on their shelves, especially at those markups.

Check the updated numbers. The mint botched this release with the bots and the bad packaging. The strikes were like they came from the Dahlonega mint.

It appears 944 have already been destroyed.

2026 was too aggressive and they should settle for around `1000 mintages for the gold. The market is already saying that.

I get tired of the constant bickering. It seems that some have too much time on their hands and feel compelled to get the last word.

No need to be a conscientious objector tonight. I said VERBAL combat. Im not suggesting they fight. It was a joke, because they argue incessantly. You had to post twice about it? Sheesh

He's just trying to stir things up.

(Answer to OP) Doubt they will melt them. The mint has a tenacious habit of hanging onto unpopular products for...ever. If they're smart they can halve the price and sell out. Still well over melt.

Which they won't do, unless they are also willing refund original purchasers, which they will never do.

They have, on occasion, discounted things slightly to move them during so-called clearance sales. But they will never burn the people who paid full price by clearing them out at half price.

That would destroy their ability to ever again overcharge for anything. And they know it.

As a result, they will either sit forever, or they will take the hit and melt them. Years from now. Not on January 2nd.

In the meantime, maybe gold rockets to $20K and they get bailed out. One can always dream!

No need to get tired. Ignore is a feature for a reason, and this is it.

I happen to think it's the people who think it's their right or obligation to control the speech of others who have "too much time on their hands." There are pretty clear rules regarding harassment, political speech, offensive speech, hate speech, etc.

Beyond that, you are given a tool to exert personal control over anyone or anything you don't like. Complaining, publicly or privately, about people you just don't like, as a way to exert control over something you don't own or control, is, in my mind, inappropriate.

If just one other person appreciates anything anyone has to say, you have a right to be annoyed or to Ignore, but you have no right to deny either the person posting or those who want to read the posts the right to do so.

The internet has democratized pretty much everything. If you think you have a better way to run a numismatic forum, the cost of entry is low, and no one is stopping you. Good luck.

Just too many options. The mint seemed to have been more intelligent in 1976.

No. Just a lot less greedy.

Back then, there was an actual Franklin Mint, so the US Mint did not feel the need to be one.

OK the Bell saga has been rehashed now ad nauseum.

Every mass production manufacturer has stubbed their toe. EVERY ONE.

Does the Mint produce some cool collectibles representing our cultural heritage? IMO yes. Are they also stretching the product listing a little....yes. Some of it Congessional authorization, but still Mint leadership is gifting some worthy numismatics.

Apparently on many products, collectors are subscribing or they would not be rolling out an ample lineup every year.

Agreed. Lots of people with too much time on their hands and a curious need for validation.

A too late update from the MINT: "The Freedom Ringing – Liberty Bell is unlike anything the United States Mint has produced before. Its distinctive Liberty Bell shape makes it our first modern non-round coin, and it presented new and complex challenges in both production and packaging. We recognize that when our customers invest in a historic product like this, the entire experience—from the craftsmanship of the coin or medal to the moment the package is opened—should reflect its significance. That is why we are taking action.

Our actions include enhancing the capsule to provide additional support and improved retention of the product during handling and transportation. The updated design is intended to provide an added level of protection and help maintain the product in its intended position."

I can see why no 70 silver bell First Strikes.
