Richard Walther Siebert (February 19, 1912 – December 9, 1978) was an American first baseman in Major League Baseball who had an 11-year career from 1932, 1936–1945. He played for the Brooklyn Dodgers and St. Louis Cardinals, both of the National League, and the Philadelphia A's of the American League. He was elected to the American League All-Star team in 1943.

Following his playing career, Siebert became head baseball coach at the University of Minnesota in 1948, where he would remain until his death. The "Chief" went on to become one of the greatest coaches in college baseball history and helped develop baseball at all levels in Minnesota. He finished with a 754–361–6 record and a .676 winning percentage, far and away the most in school history at the time; he has since been passed by current coach John Anderson. He sent five different teams to the College World Series and brought home three NCAA titles in 1956, 1960 and 1964. His teams also captured 12 Big Ten titles, and he endured only three losing seasons.

As for baseball jerseys, he wore #38, 18, 22, 10, and 5 during his MLB career. I can't speak to the value of his memorabilia. (I did not see anything on eBay). I would think vintage jerseys from that time have some collector demand/value.

Was he connected to a school by the name Concordia ? It would be jersey #1. All my reading of this particular jersey has pointed to him but no further info.

    This is what AI stated.

    • Concordia Academy High School & Concordia College (St. Paul, MN): He attended both institutions between 1926 and 1930. He played four years of baseball here as a pitcher and first baseman. In a famous 1930 game, he pitched the Concordia Comets to a 7–6 victory over the University of Minnesota. This school is known today as Concordia University, St. Paul.

    • Concordia Seminary (St. Louis, MO): After graduating from the St. Paul junior college, he moved to the seminary with plans to become a Lutheran minister. He continued playing baseball on the seminary's team before being signed to the major leagues in 1932.

Interesting ! I very well may have a peice of history! I have a jersey #1 Concordia. The jersey is white or cream colored flannel material with full buttons blue stitching and blue lettering . I guess it may be worth having looked at . There is a blood stain on the shoulder too. Should I post a photo? The tag inside if I remember correctly is Wilson id have to look again to be sure.
