Very happy to win back a coin I owned a decade or so ago. Back then was a funny time. I had just lost my “life-job” to what we now refer to as “The Affordable Care Act” and implemented a scorched-earth policy when it came to my collection, and coins in general. For about 5-6 years anything I bought was up for sale immediately. This was a dark time for me, and it took me a lot longer than I would have liked to find my way back into the light.
So every once in a while, a memorable coin that I either once owned, or bought and sold, comes back around. This time it was a particularly choice AU Sheldon 256, graded AU58+, and now with CAC. So I bided my time and said nothing, went to see it at lot view, made some notes, and won it yesterday for my exact target number, or nearly so. Patience pays, in a sense, because I was able to buy it for merely $40 more than I sold it for back in 2017. A more than fair trade for the green bean that now adorns the holder.
Not done yet, though! I have it in mind to complete the basic date set (1793 to 1814) and still will need a whole slew of DB cents to complete, including the nearly impossible 1799, the 1804 which almost never comes nice, and a 1796 DB which makes buying a 1796 cap look easy.
Anyway, here’s a copy of the too old true-view, and an auction link. To be perfectly honest, the coin in hand falls somewhere in between the lightness of the auction photos and the darkness of the true-view.

I've been there before and its nice to find the light and have the opportunity to get back "old friends". Amazing that the price was stable over a decade. My old friends usually cost me multiples when they come back around. Congrats!

Very nice! Enjoy the pursuit of the rest of the early date set. That's something I didn't have the patience to try after I finished my middle and late dates (one per year) sets. I moved into half dimes, but still look at the nice early copper.
