I bet the coin looks better than the TrueView depicts.

Looks like it was maybe semi-PL and a bit wipey but probably acceptable, but hard to tell through the too bright lighting. Don't see stars that weak too often.

Looks ok to me as AU53 or so.
We should cut the new SF mint some slack on the stars, it was their 1st year in business!

I like it; nice example. Plus, it’s from the first year of the old SF mint!
Here’s my 1854-S Eagle for comparison:
I think mine might have a few more scuffs/hairlines but is a little more lustrous. My guess, then, is AU55.

It’s a good looking coin with nice luster. However there is a black area on reverse above rt wing which I don’t like. Looks like a black smudge - toning or to be more specific biological attack? I would grade it AU53. I do like its nice luster. But it’s not PQ - seems like some slide marks. And then of course - black area. Rt obv field again blackish area and some slide marks.
Can’t see it priced more than above 10-20 pct over CDN bid.
Love the date! The coin is somewhere between 50 and 55 depending on how bad that obverse is in hand
I see this as a challenge to handicap… I am not confident that the image captures the essence of the coin. I suspect it is in the low AU spectrum, but there are surface questions that can best be resolved by an in hand review. Looks AU55 with subdued luster. But the interesting thing is that it looks to be struck through a mint bag or canvas, around 5 o’oclock, in the obverse field. Not sure if that’s an ejection mark or a nick in the neck. Overall, quite pleasing to me.

I would agree with 55. Better pics would help.

The TrueView makes it look scratchy. Hard to tell if that’s just a harsh photo, or true to the in-hand appearance. The darker areas indicate that the coin originally had semi-PL surfaces, the effect of which still remains to some extent.
The really bright areas at the tops stars, date, etc. bother me, but again may be an artifact of photography. If it’s CAC-approved I would give it the benefit of the doubt, but would definitely want to examine in-hand.
Nothing is as expensive as free money.
The pictures aren’t helping the coin but based on what I see the coin is too light for my taste and the surfaces are scratchy.

Thanks folks. @burdell found it. I really like the reverse die crack at M but find the gouge at the bottom curl at back of the neck quite distracting. Definitely searching for the right 54S $10 to add to my meager collection. Don't think this one is it but fun thread.
