TPGs have utility. They guarantee a coin is authentic, and is the grade they assign it, the coin is protected and slabbing it (straight grade) shows it hasn’t been messed with too much so it’s market acceptable.
CAC is just some guy saying it’s nice and making sellers charge more because someone said so. Really two entirely different things.
You could also argue that PCGS saying a coin is a 67 and not a 66 is just “some guy” saying a coin is really nice, and collectors bidding it up (registry coin) over a 66 as well.
Almost beyond dispute, whether fair or not, is CAC’d coins are more desirable and sought after in the marketplace, and easier to sell when the time comes to sell. Markets at work.
How I see it, anyway.

One strategy some them (gold stickered) bid the average of CDN bid between current grade and 1 grade up. Ronnie has done a few like that to test the water but no wins. Certainly he bid them up. Next time ratchet a bit higher.

Hey, it’s your money and if you want to spend more because some guy said it’s nice then go ahead.
Your #2 point- why send it in to cac if you’re selling it for the same price as a non cac coin? It’s okay to admit people try charging more. I think you kinda agree with me but just don’t want to say it 😂. And yes, I definitely got a chuckle out of your response.
Not sure of the first point about a cac sticker providing authenticity and grade because they sticker an already slabbed coin. They don’t just put a sticker on a raw coin. This isn’t regarding cacg of course.

CDN CPG has seperate pricing for CAC or CACG. These coins trade for a premium over non CAC. Higher grades premium can increase.

CAC doesn’t make people charge more. Pricing is the choice of the individual player. Many simply price cost plus. This is where the keystone markup enters in (cost x 2).

You’re just derailing the argument even though you know the original intent. It’s like one response having a small typo but that’s all you focus on even though everyone else knows what it means. Maybe you have some condition that you unfortunately cannot make conclusions from a given statement? Thats okay. In the end we are all just paying more for coins that some guy said were nice. Make up all the odd statements you want to make yourself happy and feel better but it’s been giving me good entertainment today, which I thank you for.

So like my curiosity as to why it matters to you without telling you it is right or wrong or change you?
I was doing some research on gold cac auction prices recently because thats not an area I regularly follow and I was surprised by the results. Other people can have a nuance or viewpoint that I have not considered, and I was hoping that someone would provide some insight from a different perspective.
Th last point you added to your initial post is below-
"-What I dont get is the people actively only buying gold CAC's for a set (and likely paying well over a 1 grade premium). Those are the opinions I am trying to understand."
I have many, many times paid more than a one point premium for the right coin, and the coin needn't have any CAC sticker at all. Sometimes they have a sticker and most of those times the sticker is "only" a green sticker, but when you find the right coin with the right eye appeal then pricing is a bit more elastic. That's where I live in numismatics; elasticity.

I've done the same for a coin I was absolutely in love with or got auction fever on, regardless of a sticker or holder.
I guess to each their own, if you're having fun with your hobby you're doing it right.
I have many CACG but phased out the sticker coins awhile back.
As far as the gold sticker thing that’s a seperate realm in terms of my interests. Don’t have any of those nor care to get in some bid war to get one.of them.
I probably have made more gold stickered coins than anyone else. I sometimes had to pay a premium to acquire the non-stickered slabbed coin but rarely more than one grade extra. Unless they were a spectacular early vintage PCGS white label rattler, Regency holder,,or NGC 1.0 black slab. Or even NGC 2.1 or 2.0 white label slabs.p in which case I paid much more of a premium.
It was a previous test of my on-site show grading skill which I began doing so in 2009. I no longer can find these undergraded coins as they have dried up and it takes too long to spot them.
The last gold stickering I made was in 2022 at the Baltimore November show. I paid a small premium of $20 for a 1938 walker in OGH PCGS MS-63 grade.
I got lucky and bought a pretty 1894-S $20 Liberty with a gold stickering at the 2026 Winter ANA show in Savannah GA for nearly no premium at all.
My favorite gold stickering find was the 1916-D dime in PCGS OGH G-04. I have told this story too many times. I had to battle JA to win the gold CAC sticker. Only two gold stickered 1916-D dimes in all grades.
The reason why i want to hang onto my gold stickered slabbed coins?
After I am gone I want my wife not to have to apologize for the many PCGS or few NGC grades the coin was slabbed in. I am celebrating my 73rd birthday this week.

I have purchased a few coins with Green beans but really didn't know if they were above par or not.
I will say that PCGS is breaking my habit of making moderns, I got beat down on the last sub and I mean BEAT DOWN!
It does. But dealers are generally more motivated to sell because they need to eat. A collector never NEEDS to buy, although they may feel that way sometimes. As a result, the buyers set the prices, especially at auction. The CAC premium came from buyers wanting the stickers not because dealers forced the premium onto them.

The exact same argument was applied to TPGS's. Why do I have to pay more to get a VF coin when it's in a VF "plastic coffin"?
Your post: TPGs have utility.

Any chance we could get Ronnie to post here?
I'd love to get his take on this thread coupled with what it is like working in the coin business.
The value of this hobby is the hobby, not the value.
I didn’t make up any statements - I quoted you. If you didn’t mean what you said, I don’t know what your original intent was.
As for derailing the argument, you didn’t provide one of anything meaningful. You posted this nonsense:
“CAC is just some guy saying it’s nice and making sellers charge more because someone said so.”
And you’re welcome.

You did have an absolutely incorrect interpretation of that statement but I forgive you. It happens. I’ve spent too much time already trying to correct your bad analysis so take your meds and watch some Lawrence Welk because it’ll be better in the morning.
If you’d bother to communicate clearly, you could save yourself a lot of time.
Have a fine night.

lol…
I got your point the first time around @pcgs69
I’m sure you understand how difficult it is to find unstickered CAC-quality coins you would want to buy at typical non-CAC prices. On the other hand, I’d certainly agree that there are many good values to be found in unstickerable coins.

Yes, I do. And those just missed ones are insane bargains right now.
I didn't. Lol.
Dealers don't set the prices. Buyers do.

I was responding to the tit for tat between him and Mark.
I cannot comment on CAC stickers, still learning...
