A proposed class-action lawsuit accuses PSA of using inconsistent and overly subjective grading practices, alleging that this encourages repeat submissions and helps preserve the scarcity of PSA 10s.
PSA has not publicly responded, and the allegations remain unproven. Like many long-running hobby debates, the claims will ultimately stand or fall on the evidence presented in court.
PSA was overwhelmed at the National, demand far exceeded expectations, they shut down lower-priced on-site grading, apologized to affected customers, insist cheaper grading tiers will return eventually, and are now defending themselves against two lawsuits while maintaining that grading opinions cannot be influenced by pressure or litigation.
What a dumbass to file a lawsuit because he could not bully PSA into giving his card the grade HE thinks it deserves. Hey stupid, the grade has to be an independent opinion by a third party! Other than centering, it is purely subjective. Good luck in court winning that argument.

At $50 cards in your example if not a 10 it will be well in the red. Gambling on getting a 10 to turn a small profit is not fiscally sound. Give the old prices probably will never return, to be totally blunt, those who operated in that model may now want to re-think their career choices. There are better and easier ways with less risk to earn money.

Absolutely true. Everyone's been wondering how a competing company starts to eat into PSA's market share. This is their time to do that. Find a way to offer grading rates back around $20/card and they'll be overwhelmed by collectors with medium-priced stock that could never get a 10 at PSA.
It may not be this year but there have to be some folks already planning this type attack to steal PSA's market. If I owned a grading company I'd use this time to do this. If PSA refuses to grade or charges rates only the extreme upper end cards demand then that means there's a lot of room for other graders.
PSA is showing what happens when you own so much of an industry market share. Bully for them.
I feel like a big part of the problem with Collector's/PSA is they cant recognize the magnitude of the problem that caused the backlog. It matters but if there is a moment for a money grab, that is the #1 priority. All about showing up at the National reaching into people's pockets and making that the most important thing when doing that makes the thing that the customer's care about even worse. But I have always seen PSA as a company who says its about us not you. We're too busy counting your money to hire more customer service agents. And hey, we just dont care. The orders keep coming in so if you dont like something, stop doing business with us. Please do, there are too many orders. We dont have time to make any of you smile.
The whole National incident to me just demonstrates noone on the planet is a worse forecaster than PSA. If I had a dime for every time in the last 20 years they said due to surprising unexpected demand, well, I'd at least have quite a few dimes. They never learn and I think its cause they dont want to and dont care. They just know how to cut and paste that statement, "due to unexpected demand". Okay team, we said it, you can quit answering the phones.
I think they are going to lose one of these suits. Probably not the Mantle one. But one of the other ones.
Normal 7-10 day "Walk through" is $600 a card... so was the show "on-site" $230 grading fee similar to the "walk through" service? Most I have paid to date is $150 for a 1 card review.
It seems there is unlimited demand for grading at almost any price point. I just can't understand how these people send of a case of Pokemon cards to get them all graded at $25, $50, $100 or whatever the going rate is. We're getting to the point where a card has to be worth $100 just to break even. I can't imagine a very high percentage of the cards being submitted reach that level of market value.
Hey, here's an idea, wink wink....How's about a grading service separate from all the hype driven crap, that only does SPORTS cards?????!!!!!????????????????????????????????????????????????
ULYSSES POST IS A VERY GOOD ONE. The planning seems to be almost non-existent. i really think that the two sites in CAL AND NJ are cash drainers. payroll, regulations, leases or real estate costs are just plain overwhelming. notice they are slowly moving operations to texas and florida. And if they are just printing money, why no A-1 customer support?
