What do you think about a Lincoln struck on a silver** coin** going forward ?
Okay, now you're just messing with us.
LOL .... I was just wondering ?
Why do something like that? Just curious
No, struck on low zinc brass, aka 95% copper and strike the nickel in the silver proof set on wartime silver composition -- that would be a big move in the collector direction. Otherwise, I am done wasting my time with "collector only" Lincolns in their overpriced mint sets that have nothing special about them.
You mean “going forward” like the others?
The approach should be Congress giving broad authority to the mint to make copper cents of any size, even large cents as long as it is a 1 or 2 cent piece with minimum 95% copper as numismatic products.
I agree to the extent that Congress should simply turn over decisions on all numismatic products to the Mint, Congress is too slow and not capable of rapid decisions that would depend on feedback from outcomes -- in other words, Congress has no ability to engage in free market decision making.
So, yes it would be awesome if Congress would just stick to the decision on what circulating coins should be used, and leave the numismatic decisions up to the Mint.
YES. More please!
If the idea is to put Lincoln in front of the public by putting him on a coin, there are possibilities in 2027 onward. . The only coins that actually circulate are the nickel, dime, and quarter. I think Jefferson is safe and that we will revert to Washington on the quarter. The leaves the dime as a good place for Lincoln. Else, an “honorary” place on the seldom-encountered half dollar or dollar might work.
I was thinking in the silver proof set going forward
The British Virgin Islands and I think Bermuda too produced silver versions of their one cent pieces for specialized sets.
This proposal will probably have to go through Congress first to avoid the issue of legality that killed the 2000-W Sacagawea Dollars.

There is active legislation in Congress to change the cent back to bronze for future numismatic offerings and the nickel to nickel-plated zinc for circulation. It is likely to pass at last check.
