A lil’ eBay help…

Hey Fellas, I’m new to selling on the bay and ran across a situation and wanted to check with you all before taking any action. I accepted an offer on a card, but the next day I got a message from the buyer asking if if I’d be open to a refund and cancel. Thing is i haven’t been paid yet nor has the card shipped. I’m not opposed to not going through with the sale, I am just hyper wary of scams. Any red flags here?

I'd avoid. It sounds like a possible headache.
If a buyer requests a cancellation and you haven't shipped, you should cancel.
Cancel and block.
If you go to the grocery store and decide not to buy something before checkout they don't throw you out and tell you never to return. In this situation nobody has put any effort into the transaction at all. There's no reason to block the customer.
Really blocking this customer is probably only going to make you feel better and have no effect on the buyer anyway. They're likely never going to look at another one of your listings anyway.
I gotta add, you're talking about a buy it now item.
I don't think people should be bidding on items and then asking for cancellations. If someone bids my item up then asks for a cancellation, I'd report them.
If it's a shill the person asking for the cancellation isn't going to be reported to eBay anyway, I guess.
I don't think eBay can really enforce anything.
They haven’t paid and there is a buyer requested cancellation option. Maybe they found a better deal. You should cancel. Unless they do it habitually I would not assume it’s nefarious.
I've had a couple like that. As others have suggested, I just cancel and block.
They would say they found another one cheaper or the shipping wasn't going to arrive in time.
It could be the buyer is selling one himself and this way it gets your card off ebay even for a day and shows as no longer available to any of the watchers of your card.
I had one where the buyer constantly messaged me before I even had a chance to see he was requesting a cancel.
He sent things like, "Why haven't you canceled yet." and "I'm a dealer, cancel now!"
That one, I didn't cancel and reported as a non paying bidder so he would have a mark on his record, if it even matters.

More likely the guy just decided to not spend the money.
I think what happened is his cat got sick and his wife took it to the vet. They figured it was nothing major and he was picking up some cards for his collection. Then his wife called. Kitty was in serious trouble and needed emergency tail replacement surgery. This unexpected cost could run into the thousands his wife told him. He had to cancel the purchase.
Or he was scamming or he didn’t want to buy it or he poor.
Sobriety.
