Brett had 13 straight hits against Ed Figueroa in 1975 and for the year was 14-16 (.875) against him.

You can bet Nolan Ryan would have hit him LONG before 13 straight hits!
george was a fantastic hitter. One of my favorites. i dont know what type of a pitcher figueroa was, but george seemed to hit fastball pitchers really well. we all know what he did against gossage, but he also hit nolan really well. if i remember right, he hit almost .300 off him in like a hundred career at bats!
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
For sure! 😂
This morning I was on baseball reference and looked at a list of how Brett did against every pitcher he faced. He did end up with a career average of .610 against Figueroa, 25-41
The list surprised me because there were a few lefties he hit very well.
And it surprised me he was 1-23, .043
against Rick Sutcliffe, a righty. I know he was tough to hit but Brett usually hit righthanders at least decently well.
I have a baseball card showing that George had six 3-hit games in a row (I think it's a 1977 Topps). Wow, that's a pretty good week! George Brett is my all-time-favorite athlete.
How many hits against Tug McGraw? The one AB I recall was in the 1980 World Series in the single most important at bat of Brett's career...and he got called out on strikes down by one in the bottom of the 9th in pivotal game 5. According to you and your buddy he failed in the biggest moment and as such that defines his career.
Lucky for him the umpire gifted him his only WS in 1985.
1948_whatevertheheck: You're delusional. George Brett was great in big playoff games (I believe he once hit 3 homers in one playoff game). And his homer off Goose Gossage to win a playoff series was historic. Check out Brett's playoff stats and you'll see that I'm right.
Just looked it up and found this: George Brett had a spectacular postseason career, batting .337 with 10 home runs, 23 RBIs, and a 1.023 OPS in 43 career playoff games. Across 7 postseason appearances, he collected 56 hits, including 8 doubles and 5 triples.
I agree he was. But a few people only count the absolute biggest moments and disregard every other degree of contribution, and it also only matters if you win the WS....so none of that would even count for Brett since they didn't win the WS after those big hits. Also, can't blame the teammates for not winning. The winning is solely pinned on the best player according to them.
So yes, i agree that is delusional thinking.
So in the end, ALCS isn't that big. The World Series is what counts....it trumps anything done in the ALCS just like they believe the ALDS trumps antything done in the regular season, regardless of how small the sample is....so Game 5 of the WS in the bottom of the 9th down one...a strikeout in his biggest moment. That is their belief.
