CC Added?

Just trying to add to my knowledge here so happy for any discussion. After purchasing a lot of common date dollars, I came across this one. After putting the loupe to it, as my old eyes aren't what they once were, I felt this was probably a 79-P with the CC added many moons ago. Opinions for or against this conclusion are greatly appreciated!

I could be proven wrong, but I don't think that's added. The coin isn't rare enough in that grade to make that a top likelihood. The style is consistent with 1879.

Thanks for the response! The weird tilt has me thrown off. Obviously I'd prefer if it is authentic. I just tend to err on the side of caution.
If there's any question I'd send it to ANACS for "Genuine Only" no grade. You could even crack it out after satisfying your curiosity if you don't intend to sell.

go to https://vamworld.com/ and try to match it up
I went out there before but apparently I did dig deep enough. Could be one of 3 tilted CC varieties. Will have to look even closer tomorrow.
Other than having been harshly cleaned, it looks okay to me.

Im thinking sinse it was all hand punches back then that one might find a slight variance in the letters. The rest looks ok to me
Genuine, harshly cleaned or wizzed.
No need to get in a holder. Just describe properly whenever you sell.

Positionally, the mintmark is fine (several nice VAMs for 1879-CC), but the date itself looks distorted.

If it’s fake they did a heck of a good job.
Frankly it would fool me (if fake) which is why I go with TPG graded material. Especially at that price area.
Why does the date look weird to me?

Nowadays you have to err on the side of caution, as there seem to be a proliferation of counterfeits and altered coins appearing.
Your coin appears to be genuine, though.

Looks like VAM 2A. I don't see the chips by the stars or above the B in the pictures, but in VF they'll be pretty weak.

That was the closest I could come up with as well. I also didn't see those chips. There is a chip in the bottom of the "8" and the CC looks like that one. Probably isn't going to make much of a difference in this condition.
The coin really isn't that bright. I just had it under a lot of light to be able to get the details. It's not a great looking coin by any means, but still a 79-CC and will probably find it's way into someone's album at some point.
Its good IMO
