Am I receiving a returned item?

I purchased the 2026 proof Buffalo from the mint and was checked out at 12:02. My son also purchased one and his sale was completed at 12:01. He’s a bit more adept on the computer than I am. His coin shipped on Monday the 11th. and was received at his home on Friday the 15th. Mine hadn’t shipped so I contacted the mint and was told they were waiting on inventory. Later today ,I’m notified my order has shipped ,but I notice it’s coming from Dallas (the mints return processing center). So my question is am I receiving an item that was delivered to someone else and then returned because of poor quality? Is this something the mint does?

I bought the Olympic commemorative $10 gold coin from the mint in 1984. The coin I received had a scrape mark in the obverse field so I returned it and request a replacement. The mint then sent me a coin that was even worse. I assume returned coins are just put back into inventory.

    it is possible

i'm not sure if they have 2 dist centers but keeping a tiny amount of inventory in a separate location seems like something they would not do

I recall seeing on here that the USM does have two distribution centers, one in TN? and one in TX?, if I recall correctly. The timing is odd especially since they said they were waiting on inventory and it suddenly appeared. However these are not sold out so they may have received fresh inventory. Bottom line I would wait until I received it, take a good look at it and see if I was happy. If it appears to maybe be a return sent out to you, I would return it, they will send you a return mail slip if it appears flawed/damaged. You can, at least at this time reorder or request a replacement.

All my orders from the mint come from Dallas, including a 2026 Buffalo that shipped on the 11th and was received yesterday.

Too quick a turn around to be a return. It doesn't happen that fast. Returned items are processed and then released back to inventory - form return shipped, rec'd and inspected to be placed back in inventory doesnt happen in a few days.

Your delay could have been due to the third party handling the logistics did not have enough product in hand at their loaction to be able to ship (i.e. the US Mint did not deliver to them - they didnt have enough quantity on hand)
