OT: Any Rockhounds here? Interesting Rock…
They knocked down a local old house and while looking for coins (2 merc dimes) I noticed a rock that was left behind when the fieldstone foundation was mostly cleared away. About 15”x 9”x9 is is Extremely Heavy it shines with metallic silver grey throughout. It’s not magnetic. Any ideas?

I'm no geologist but my WAG would be
metamorphic rock, a type of schist.
Might hold some gold if you are in that geographical area.
looks sedimentary - my wag is hematite
but you'd get your definite answer on a geologist type forum
Probably but as a new poster I’d have to go through the whole dance
It almost looks like a piece of petrified wood.
Here’s what Google lens thinks it is

Looks like Mica Schist to me, the stuff we find garnets in.
I think that’s correct. Thanks

Including “OT” in the thread title doesn’t make such an OT post any less inconsiderate.

Would this post be to a geologist type forum like a "parking lot find" is to a coin forum?

Still looks like a big piece of ugly coal, anyway...
I have deleted my reply to your post three times.
Yup! Just a rock
