10k. Popularity of this has been waning. I'm guessing a small boost for the SemiQ. But the price of gold and quantity of US Mint gold offerings this year is draining the average collector.

5450 was the ATS for drop date. If they go slowly, 7,000 tops.

With those new numbers (which updated after 7:30 EST this morning) it will not sell out this year at all.

The 2025 coin value just jumped significantly because of that ats number.

For some reason, all of the major sellers that I've checked, have absurdly large premiums on PF70s. I've never seen this before on prior issues. No idea why.

Could be the special 250th designation, or perhaps the ATS up until yesterday was 5450 when it jumped to a current ats": 12668,

Tons on Ebay. looks like all the dealers thought this would be a hit.

Still, anyone can get the 250 label.

I don't know why they put such a huge premium on these graded.70s more so than they have on prior issues. In each case, anyone could get them graded themselves. I have usually bought graded 70s because I figured the premium made sense & I knew I would get a 70 and I was paying a few $100 extra to avoid the hassle. But in this instance it's crazy.

Hadn't thought about the ATS. Obviously that was going to go to where it should before release.

    Got mine.
These have been slow sellers for a long time and that will not change. Some people think a dual date and privy mark will be enough to drive excitement. And it may drive 10 or 20% more sales but I wouldn't expect much more than that. Could be wrong.

I wish I'd have no gotten started w/these. Other than the fractionals, as someone said, would have been far better w/generic gold. However, I've stupidly sold most generic gold as the price ran up, but I've kept these. So, in the end, it's worked out. I like these coins as well. I thought, from the start, that getting each W marked one each year would be a fun way to get some gold. The premiums are so high though, but still, it's hard to stop w/a set that I've been w/since 2006.

I sold so many 69 fractionals years ago. Ugh. So wish that I'd have just left them alone.

I'm in the same boat. Could have ceased with 2025 - being 20 years (inclusive) plus fractionals, plus rev proofs.

Nope - im a sucker for punishment. Im in again.

I have missed a few here and there, but have ZERO intent to sell them. I just enjoy them more than any other gold.

I started from the beginning. I've never missed one. I bought many fractionals. Sold too many. I do like these very much. Sadly, they've most all not had a numismatic premium. The only value - other than my liking them - is that I was sure to keep at least one of each instead of selling them like I did much other gold only to see spot keep going up.

Always a double -play when buying the gold and platinum. It is a high premium - but I havent been disappointed yet in buying them each year.

At least you have profited on those you sold and have the good fortune of having bought the earlier ones at much, much lower prices than the one we got today.

(3500 sold in the first 30 min....not a bad start. Had they stuck with the 5450 ATS they had originally loaded into inventory, they would be gone today. I suspect these will be available for a few weeks unless someone swoops in after the HHL is lifted Friday)

Was curious what you all might think about selling a completed set. If you had all MS70 or PR70DCAM, in the same First Strike Labeled PCGS holders, is there any way to get a premium for selling the whole set at once or is breaking it up and selling one at a time going to yield the highest return? Typically it seems breaking a set up is the answer here, but just wondering if anyone would pay a premium to acquire a complete perfect set.

  • ProofCollectionProofCollection Posts: 7,696 ✭✭✭✭✭

ATS = 8257. I would say that's maybe a bit above "recent" normal levels for gold buffalo releases. Probably sell another thousand tomorrow when HHL lifted. Not a barn burner by any means though.

There are 42 one ounce coins thru 2025 (with Rev Prf) without the 08-W BU and Prf fractionals. Even at melt you are talking roughly 200k. Most likely you would do better breaking it up - to get the value out of certain coins in PR70 FS.

Will be interesting to see how the 1804 does w these high prices. I'd imagine it will sell out immediately. But with these high prices who knows.

Its crazy to think that you could have gotten almost seven of the 2006 buffs for the price of the one today.

Even more crazy is the price some larger dealers are charging for 70FS coins - most want at least $1400+ over mint issue
Much easier to certify yourself - especially these higher end gold - most 70 anyway

  • safari_dudesafari_dude Posts: 521 ✭✭✭✭✭

I have all the proofs in PCGS 2006 through 2022 in signed 70 DCAM Mercanti slabs, and then 2023-2025 UC 70’s in NGC slabs with Mercanti signatures. Purchase prices have ranged from $2000 to $6995. Looks like to continue the set with a signed Mercanti 70UC (apparently Mercanti is exclusive with NGC now) will be about $11K for this issue. Think that may finally put me out of a signed Mercanti piece. I know the coin dealers need to make a little money but more than doubling the mint’s price is a bit excessive in my opinion and I know that Mercanti can’t be charging THAT much for his signature……. I do like the coin however, so I may have to go on the open market to get my 70 DCAM/UC to keep my set going.

    100%

I used to just buy graded 70s. I was fine paying a few hundred dollars to avoid the hassle and the chance of a sixty nine. For this particular issue, the markup is just so ridiculous that I ordered from The Mint and we'll get it graded as long as it looks okay.

I've been in the same boat. Last year I wound up with a 69 and had to buy aftermarket and dump the 69. I hope I have better luck this year. Just got my results for 4 Congratulations ASE's. They all came back 69's.

I watch GC because inevitably someone sooner or later will sell one at a discount to what I see the dealers selling them for. eBay is the same, but I stay away from individuals unless I have dealt with them before. But knowing my luck if I bought one straight from the mint I’d send it in and end up with a DCAM or UC 68 or 69. 🤔😬

    Thats always the risk.

That's y I have always bought graded for these. The inexplicable, absurd markup for this particular issue is too much for me to take. I've had very good luck with modern gold getting a 70. Really hoping g so this time.

This is not an encouraging anecdote. Thanks for sharing candidly !

Last year I bought two Sunflower Gold coins from the Mint. Both had flaws. I had hoped to have them both in the pf70 candidacy eyeballing.
Cost me close to a hondo to mail back insure by registered mail. In hindsight, they would have been fairly priced gold bullion in today's prices for gold.

This is what puts the brakes on me for this buffalo.

Even gives me pause for the 'bust' gold coin, although I like it for sure !

Lately there have been far too many (for my gut) special releases having quality problems. Yikes.
