MadMarty Cook Island coin

BochimanBochiman Posts: 25,787 ✭✭✭✭✭

Another "missing" coin that popped up when I found a box from years ago in my "spring cleaning".
I knew Marty had sent me one and I didn't remember selling it, but I just didn't know where it was.
Tonight, I found it.

Anyone else still have one?

I see 2 for sale on ebay (quite a price difference) and none in recent sales there. I can't remember how many Marty had done but it couldn't have been tons of them.

Cool little coins with a bit of history with his sense of humor (I liked Marty...good guy and his, and Russ' , interactions were legendary on the forum)

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I have two coins and a “HolyLands” medal that Marty gave me.

I was never able to get one of the Mad Marty slabs, but I do have a 5cent piece with the same design.

If you're talking about the coin with a penis hanging out in the breeze, then yes. :)

My question to the forum, who here has been to the Cook Islands?

One of the coins Marty sent me is an NGC encapsulated Jefferson Nickel graded PF68UCAM with perhaps the most intense white frost I have ever seen and on a Nickel. No doubt it’s one of the earliest strikes off a new pair of dies.

I have one somewhere, though I remember being disappointed that he wouldn't sell me the one he had slabbed with a clipped planchet.

    Sean Reynolds

Incomplete planchets wanted, especially Lincoln Cents & type coins.

I have one he gave me at a coin show that says “From the Mad Marty Collection” and a few other raw examples. Here’s a collage I made about 20 years ago of one of them

But of course, Marty’s avatar was more appropriate and modest

I’ll have to find the slabbed one and take a slab shot when I get a chance, Mad Marty was one of the Forum Greats back in the days

And, not me, for visiting the Cook Islands....do they even get fedex packages way out there?

Now that you mention it, I think I have one. At the very least I certainly remember them, but I couldn't say for sure whether it's because I remember way back or because I happened to stumble upon mine sometime in the last few years.

I have one, I ran across it a few weeks ago and had good memories of Mad Marty. He is missed, along with LucyBop and many others.

Good question. I have no idea, been retired from that 'program' five years now.

    Here's my example.

Flying to the Cook Islands in 3 months. :)

Brings back memories. I had one, once upon a time, but have no recollection of where it went.

Collector since 1976. On the CU forums here since 2001.

I do have this coin, as well as a 3 dollar bill from there. And yes, I did get to visit there back in 2013. It's a wonderful place.
