kind of off topic..

my son is a left handed pitcher (soph in HS) and his elbow has been bothering him so I took him to the doctor, he has a partially torn UCL, almost 50%. He has had to sit out the season for the most part, pitching none. He gets to practice but can't play in the games. He plays first base.

anyone have any experience with this type of injury or know some people that do?

Everyone is a bit different and what you say sounds like a grade 2. My experience is about 3-6 months for full non-surgical recovery. Younger heals quicker. My caution. Don’t rush it. It took me 3 years of setbacks to get back to 100. What does his ortho say? The location and severity play a major part in the surgery decision. UCL is one many recommend a second opinion on as well. Good luck. Annoying injury.

sports ortho doc sent it to a surgeon who we will be seeing june 8. He isn't sure. He went over the PRP injection with us and that sounded great to me. But followed up saying the surgery would most likely solve the issue. The injection is about 60% chance of full recovery -- back to normal. I am not sure what side the tear is on. I am assuming the worst side.

did you tear yours pitching/throwing? do you know how much you tore?

Thanks. He has barely thrown since January 1. he did a bullpen on march 14 because he was feeling a lot better, he did ok. BUt the next day it was bothering him again. So he took off 6 weeks, threw some for about a month (very little pitching though) and now hasn't thrown since March 14.

Sorry to hear that—UCL issues are no joke. Glad you got it checked early. Curious to hear others’ experiences, but hoping he’s back on the mound before long.

Playing Disc Golf. I had a proximal tear. I don't really throw forehands for distance anymore because I'm just afraid of dealing with it again. The pain was constant... not real bad, but like an annoying ache...

This is what derailed my senior year of HS baseball and led me to have to quit. Didn't play again for about 5 years and tried an adult league after college. Pain returned after about a week. Tried again about 5 years after and same result. Haven't played since.
