PCGS - large coin submission packaging

I have a large, 5 oz. coin I am submitting to PCGS for grading. Per their instructions, everything must be submitted in 2.5 x 2.5 mylar flips, not snap cases. However, the coin I'm submitting will not fit in the mylar flip. The only way I can send this coin is in the original, sealed mint snap case. Has anyone submitted coins to PCGS in the mint snap cases and were they accepted for grading?

Side note - one of PCGS' options for First Strike designation is submitting a coin in the original, unopened shipping contained received from the mint. Obviously, such coin will not be in a mylar flip, but in the sealed case. It seems that would invalidate or contradict the submission form statement of mylar flips only.

Thank you.

please check their first strike cut-off dates to know if it will qualify for first strike and if it must be in an unopened box (by deductive reasoning)

they take mint capsules, but obviously flips are easier

the plastic you send it in may get damaged in the extraction process. they can return the mint OGP (original government packaging) upon request, but again this plastic may be damaged. (they have insurance and i've never heard of anyone's coin being damaged)

    Thank you for your response.

This particular coin doesn't qualify for First Strike. I was just observing that they take encapsulated coins in FS cases, so it would seem I could submit this coin encapsulated since it's too large for a mylar flip.

Leave it in the snap case/capsule!

I never pull out a proof ASE, AGE, or Liberty proof out of the capsule for a submission.

A 2.5 oz Comic Medal, or a 5 oz ATB Coin will stay in the capsule and go into a small bubble envelope, inside a larger bubble envelope, etc, etc... They usually return the empty capsules wrapped in foam alongside the newly slabbed coin.

No issue submitting in the capsule. I honestly think that stapled cardboard holders are the only think they will reject but I have never attempted to send one in...

We do allow it as long as its the official acrylic case issues by the mint!
