@Morgan13 ....
I had so many painful and costly "learning experiences" with Indian Head Cents when I first started. I still have some coins that I painfully overpaid for. When I go through my collection, sometimes I will see them, and it is a reminder of how far I have come with my knowledge of what to look for!
Im pretty sure almost all of us have spent more than a few dollars to learn a lesson. It's what helps us get better at the hobby.
To me, the coin you purchased did look tampered with, and I'm glad you were able to get a refund and return the coin.
@redraider the dealer insisted that coin was red and uncirculated.
I also believe it was tampered with. To make matters worse the dealer was lied to me.
I have learned to listen to advice even more so now than ever.
I'm pretty good with Morgan's but everything else is unchartered territory for me. From now on I intend to purchase only slabbed type coins.
Even then I need to take it slow. Finding coins with nice attributes is key.
I also hope this experience will help other collectors.
