Enjoying retirement at last!

2dueces2dueces Posts: 6,837 ✭✭✭✭✭

Retired last month at age 69. I quit golfing about 25 years ago and have taken it back up. Technology has come a long way in 30 years!! Had to switch from stiff shaft to regular graphite because my swing speed is slower. Went with TaylorMade Qi10 driver Stealth woods and irons. Swing is still there, just a bit rusty. Joined a local CC and seniors get together 3 mornings a week. Right now I’m just pounding ball to get ready. Updates to follow. Anyway enjoying retirement at last!!!

Congrats on your retirement!!! I hope you get to spend lots of time out golfing.

I remember an old guy my grandfather used to hang around with. His goal was to get out and play 100 rounds a year. some years he got out even more. that guy really enjoyed his retirement.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

Thanks. I’m still physically fit and plan to play 3 times a week. Hopefully the body holds up. Lol

Enjoy your retirement. As galaxy noted him and I hold court on golf interest. Maybe you will report your first hole in one on the forum.⛳

I’ll update my progress in that thread. Most likely a few weeks away from actually hitting the course. I know it will take some time but I don’t want to completely embarrass myself so practice, practice, practice.

    Hi Joe.

My father, also a Joe, loved golf and had the same plan as you. He didn't make it to retirement though.

    Good for you!

My father also had the same plan and like your dad didn’t make it. I’m enjoying it for him now.

Sounds like a good plan. I would imagine that a lot of us are almost there as well; I know that I'm not too far away from that life chapter.

After a month on the range first time on the course. You can hit range balls all day but nothing prepares you for chipping and putting on a new course. Extremely rusty and not used to the speed of the greens. Went out with the mindset not to get frustrated with bad shots and to just enjoy myself. 44-46 - 90. True 90 as it’s the only way I can gauge if I improve.

Take aim to shoot your age as a goal. I believe Gary Player stated he can shoot his age, 90.

Yeah but they were pro. I’m going to be happy again when I shoot in the 70’s, then I’ll work towards par. Right now I’m just having fun not having to get up and go to work.

I can shoot my age, 61, in 6 or 7 holes so what’s the challenge there?

    Congrats deuces on your retirement!
Enjoy it to the fullest which sounds like what you intend to do. Great way to exercise and stay in shape!

Shot 85 today. Stayed away from the big #’s and had my first birdie. Sharper with the wedges and putting. Irons are still rusty. Should have had more chances at birdie but am missing the green. Driver hasn’t been a problem and 3 wood off the deck is straight.
    Progress
