1943 P War Nickel Lamination Error

MtW124MtW124 Posts: 537 ✭✭✭✭

I have this war nickel and it has a lamination error on the obverse from the rim down through the top of Jefferson’s head following his hairline. I almost didn’t catch it. After examining it through my amscope it is clear to me that it’s lamination. Has anyone else come across one of these before?

I thought EVERYONE had seen one of these. It's very common on Warnickels.

@MarkKelley its my first and I have 16 others but had never heard of it happening on war nickels before. I have many wheat cents with lamination. Just thought I would ask some who are much more qualified on war nickels than myself. Thanks for the information.

This was a completely new alloy at the mint, and they failed to work all the bugs out.

That's funny. I just pounded one with a hammer that looked fine but was completely worn out to see what the metal looks like. Much to my surprise it had an internal flaw and a large chunk broke off. It was a '43-P.

I rang a few of them and found a couple others that were "off".

    Them things is hollow!
