Complete Set Display

Hello everyone! First time posting on the PSA forum.

As there are now many high priced completed PSA sets, I am interested to learn what everyone is doing with their completed PSA sets. Are you displaying them, storing them in your closets, or placed them in your bank safety deposit box? My personal preference is to display them in wall dispay cases but have found this to be very inpractical due to the amount of room needed, especially for older baseball sets.

  • HCS,

Welcome to the registry! Right now I display the stars on my wall in a psa card case which holds 50 cards. Eventually I would like to build an area on the wall large enough to hold all 598 of the 65 topps cards all together and display them. I don't collect any "high" dollar cards so it isn't too difficult to keep them out. But right now most of the commons are stored away in boxes.

I have a 68 set that is over 70% complete. I intend to show most of the stars in a wall case with the rest in a drawer setup custom built to holds the rest. I would rather enjoy these when I get the inkling than to put them up out of view. Just my opinion. Welcome and enjoy these bords there are some top notch people in here.

Thanks for your kind welcome and sharing how you are or will display your completed sets. I am also a big fan of the 65 set. I would love to see a picture of your display once it is completed. Has anyone completed a display for a nice large set? Viewing ticket prices?

  • I think it would be great if one of the dealers developed some kind of wall system for graded cards and marketed it to the collectors. I think many folks would pay a very fair price for something like this. Does anybody know of anything out there?

    Welcome HCS!

I have to admit that my 72 set and most of my others are stored away in the vault. I have plenty of other baseball memorabilia displayed - but the graded cards need more security. If I have someone that I specifically want to show them to - I can go get them. Otherwise - I choose to keep them safe from fire, water and theft.

All of the more valuable cards ($75+ selling price) in my collection reside at the bank. The rest are inconspicuously stacked end to end in a large box.

Unfortunately, my Mantle collection and 1957 set are in the vault for safety. Besides, my wife does not want to be reminded of where our extra income winds up!

  • I HAVE FLOOR TO CEILING SHELVES WITH ALL MY SETS IN THREE-RING BINDERS--I CAN VIEW THEM ON A DAILY BASIS. YES , THAT INCLUDES SETS THAT ARE FROM 20% (SMR LISTED CARDS) TO 100% PSA GRADED.

MY PROCESS IS TO COLOR PHOTO-COPY THE FRONT AND BACK OF EACH GRADED CARD AT 74% REDUCTION ; TRIM THE 2 SIDES OF THE PHOTOCOPY , SCOTCH TAPE THE 2 SIDES (BLANK SIDE TO BLANK SIDE), PUT IT IN A SOFT ULTRA-PRO CARD SLEEVE AND PLACE IT IN IT'S PROPER POSITION IN THE 9-CARD PAGE OF THE 3-RING BINDER.

    PRESTO

I CAN PUT THE ORIGINAL GRADED CARDS IN SAFETY DEPOSIT BOXES, AND STILL ENJOY MY SETS--- EVEN IF YOU MIGHT ARGUE THAT MY GRADED COPIES ARE "TRIMMED"-- RON HOBBS

Pennzoni displays make a nice Wall Mount for 50 graded cards. I heard of a new PSA graded vinyl page that holds 4 cards per page. I think other than a deposit box, the best way to store PSA graded cards is in the PSA plastic boxes (25 cards per box) and then inside a fireproof safe. Just a thought ...

  • I plan on putting all my graded cards in those 4 pocket PSA page that 1420 mentioned. I don't know what I'm going to do with my 64 Topps Giants yet. Probably find a box big enough to fit all of them.

  • I am keeping my 300 Great BAseball Card Set in Pennzoni Wall Dsiplays (Hold 50 cards) so far I have 1 filled and I am filling another one. Although I am sure it would be safer and more logical to store some high value cards in a safe or bank vault I do not. If I am going to pay this much for card board and ink (And that is what cards are ) I want to be able to look at them and enjoy them on a daily basis.

I wish PSA (or anybody) would come up with a page that could store 9 cards in a 3x3 grid. 2x2, which is was PSA has now, just isn't practical for large sets. You figure maybe only 16 pages per binder, which adds up to only 64 cards. For a big set like '71 Topps you'd need 12 binders!

A 3x3 sheet, with a hard plastic skeleton to hold the cards rather than vinyl, could hold 144 cards. Still, not a lot, but much better than 64.

    Twiniron,

Seems like an interesting idea. Do you use a scanner or a professional color copier. Have you thought of just scanning and then saving to the hard drive or to CDs, to save even more space ? I am sure either way it would be great for insurance purposes also.image
