The 1975-S Proof Set is a Potential....
Just thought I'd bring a bit of a nostalgic giggle to those who remember another time when the market went bozo for a "limited number" penny release. I remember when they were going for $35 each - and that was in 1975 money. Thats about $200 after inflation
Philately will get you nowhere....

That's before my time. Was this due to the S-cent not being made for circulation for the first time?

Yup. And it was a biiiiiiiiig deal
That’s kind of the point though right? It’s all hype and collectible coins are for the most part made in quantities way higher than their actual collectible base. Once the hype dies, so does the two way market and then their value over baseline modified against precious metal values. Buy the stuff you like and don’t be a sucker

11.5$ Southern Dollars, The little “Big Easy” set
I remember the hype about this set, was only 5 at the time, but an avid collector
I remember that very well. I had a subscription to COINage magazine and the adds in the magazine, especially the glossy back page ads, were offering them at $35 a piece. I could not afford one at the time.
