Why do forum members deny access to their posting history ?
Over the years I've noticed posters here at my favorite numismatic forum that are able to deny access to their posts, their length of time as a member, everything. Just see a face on a page with a zig zag expression.
Curious what's the benefit ?
I'd guess security but handle ID is typically anonymous too.

I can tell you that at one point I changed my email and when I did I must have clicked the wrong box or changed some kind of permission because shortly thereafter someone asked me in a PM why my profile was private. I hand't even known it was changed to private so I went back and made certain it was public.
I hope it's still public!

Yes ! I see your history,

When someone's profile is private, you can't send them a PM.

Yes you can. Especially if you already have a PM history with the person.

You can respond to a PM from someone with a private profile but I'm not sure how you could initiate a first time PM to someone who has a private profile.

You can initiate aa PM without ever going to someone's profile. I've explained it before and recently made a post in the BST forum explaining it. This just shows more that it should be pinned over there.

@ChrisH821 I was just coming back to post the link to your thread! Good catch.

I will try to quote (put an aroba before username) and message that person in a test thread to get attention if I need to.
Because they are being harsche.
Deny access to their posts? How does that work?
Einstein’s view of God was non-traditional and pantheistic, focusing on the harmony, order, and intelligibility of the cosmos rather than a personal deity. His quotes reveal a profound respect for the universe’s mysteries, a belief in rational laws, and a moral philosophy grounded in compassion and understanding, bridging science and spirituality.
“My religion consists of a humble admiration of the illimitable superior spirit who reveals himself in the slight details we are able to perceive with our frail and feeble mind.”
Albert Einstein (14 March 1879--18 April 1955)
My question is more about the why & not the how.
If you look at peoples posting history occasionally I come across PERMISSION PROBLEM.
Is it directed to me, or everyone ?
PROMISSION PROBLEM here Means:
I see no posts, no threads started, no awards, no date when the person joined.
Nothing.
It's like a cloaking devise
If they wanna keep it private, that's there prerogative

okay. I think this forum needs an "unwelcome" list for members who create threads and are in good standing. Say I start a thread and I want to keep an individual or two or three I don't much care for out of the thread. "Unwelcome" list wouldn't allow individuals to post anything in thread except for maybe likes, agrees or lol. Up to 5 "ignores" are allowed. Why not 5 "unwelcomes"?

That sounds harsche.
Thanks for the "agree" on my last post humanssuck. A good way to go with "Ignore" would be to beef up Ignore by making it either a mutual or "forced" Ignore. In other words, neither individual on Ignore can see the other individual's post. Nothing to complain about if neither party can see the others' post, right? That would be more technical to make happen, however, and it's doubtful that PCGS would want to go to that extent to make this forum a more pleasant place to be for all it's members. The problem has to first be recognized by the owner and then there has to be a willingness by the owner to address the problem with some kind of solution. The only solutions, if you want to call them that, is for a member to just get disgusted and leave the forum of his or her own volition or for the owner to take the harshest action they can and ban who THEY consider an offending member.
Granting up to 5 "unwelcomes" to a member shouldn't be that tough to write into the code. Heck, I would even sign on for another year of club membership if 5 unwelcomes in this forum were to go along with the four free grading vouchers.

I haven't used ignore feature here for a few years. People I bothered to put on ignore eventually got the jail bars and lost access. 100%. Back then my ignored members still showed up in lighter text and they would still pop up when others quoted them. I found ignore function distracting. Then one day no one popped up in lighter text. These days when I see someone I no longer care to read I just scroll pass whatever they are posting.
I am lucky PCGS allows us to share and express coin related and hobby related opinions. There's a wealth of numismatic info on this site: Human Intelligence.
I've been here just 9 years, came late to the party, Fred Weinberg invited me to join. Done biz with Fred since 1979 until he retired a bit ago.
All my history here is easy to see as my details and posting history are not hidden.
My handle is part of my legal name.
I still do not grasp why members hide their content from everyone to search here.
It is nice a few of those chimed in !
Thanks !

I think it is one of the following reasons (depending on the person):
~just an accident (didn't know they set it to private)
~people being extra cautious (they believe keeping it private is more secure)
~those that troll or scam want to make it harder for others to research their history
For no apparent reason......
I give them little respect. No permissions should include no postings.

It wb to block troll trash, criminals, etc.
