Altered Cards

There’s a 53 Bowman Mantle on eBay that PSA has slabbed Authentic Altered. The listing explains that the card isn’t trimmed, rather someone took the nice looking off-centered card and somehow “erased” part of the left border of the card to make it appear more centered.

No idea what the card looks like in hand or how easy it would be to spot, but this level of card doctoring seems next level. Crazy.

Here’s the doctored card:

And here’s one that isn’t:

Note - neither card is mine. Also, I don’t believe the seller is doing anything shady; everything seems to be properly disclosed on the eBay listing.

I suppose people altering/doctoring cards are just more sophisticated thieves. Sad.

If they both sell, it would be interesting to see the prices.
(Edited to add, I just saw the '707 Sportscards' watermark so I assume that will never be sold).

This type of was done back in the early 90s it was vary common back then and the cards were sent back ungraded and noted as borders erased

  • I assume a surface alteration like this would be readily apparent to the naked eye with the card in hand?

Crack it out, have Brent or Gary trim the right border, send it to MBA and it will receive an 7 or 8 + gold star sticker. Then sell it at Mile High Auction.

Better yet, have GMC sell it.... appears that GMC has no problem selling MBA cards.
