  • I was one of the few people who still bought an uncirculated set every year. So much for that. Is this their way of killing it off because they're tired of making it?

No more uncirculated set for my dad for Christmas. 😞

    Why not ?

Dad will miss that traditional numismatic bone ! And the 1776-2026 will be a great conversation item ! You might be surprised in the future your Mint Set gifts inspired him to do some additional shopping.

Years ago after my Dad passed I inherited his entire collection of gifts the wife and I gave him. Decades of new in box treasures. Ditto for Mom's gifts we gave her too. As I am only child there wasn't anything to split with siblings, nieces and nephews.

The principle of the price increase (driven by rising precious metals) on a set without precious metals. Honestly, he’ll probably support that decision where he hear’s the full story.

Dad will get a different gift, don’t worry!

It's basically $124 for circulating pocket change.

Still, they will probably get away with it this year (somewhat) because of the anniversary.

I'll be curious to see how the mintages hold up at these prices. Same for the clad proof set.

The mint can charge what ever they want and hell it might even result in some aftermarket treasurers with a measure of genuine scarcity. My only concern is they have shifted to the subscription model and how many people will get hammered on auto pilot.

I'm wondering if this price increase for the mint set will trigger some resourceful dealer to assemble some after market sets. If priced even half way in between, these would be a great seller I would think.

    What mintages are you contemplating?

The last time I checked, even at mintages 80% lower (at about 400K in 2022) from the typical prior clad proof set mintage of 2MM and somewhat less for mint sets, this is far too common for such low preference coinage at these prices to be competitive versus other coins or sets in a similar price range.

I can see it happening for a few years until the novelty wears off but longer term, I think these will end up like the SQ years.

It's somewhat different for the silver proof sets now since the spot price can or might support these inflated list prices.

Happy Friday the 13th HalfDime !

Any idea where the 5 ounce pucks retailed before they fell off the system at the USMINT ? I recall $380 but who knows ?
They just dropped off the catalogue last couple years, right ?

    Thank You !

    Happy Friday the 13th!

I see this on the mint website:

The United States Mint today announced the opening of sales for the 2010 America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin – Hot Springs National Park at noon Eastern Time (ET) on April 28, 2011. The coin is currently priced at $279.95.

The 2010 coins were released in 2011.

I'll have to dig up my receipts as I think I was paying like $150 a boxed puck over a couple years, like 2014ish.

I really want a 2026 silver proof set, but not for $245!!

I purchased the Hot Springs at that time and was under water for years. The prices for these were all over the boards. I purchased some in either 2019 or 2020 for $154.00 each from the mint. That's the cheapest i recall them being.

The regular proof set for $107 (all clad, no silver) is ludicrous. 168% price increase for base metal and plastic.

I did a QUICK search of the "Federal Register". Certainly could have missed something, but it appears that the most recent price change for the subject coins was in JUL-2013 (i.e., @ $154.95).
