The Burnished 2025 W Uncirculated American Eagle Gold Coin sold only 2,335 coins as the report below shows, making it the lowest mintage of the series. By comparison, the 2020 W Proof $50 gold Eagle sold 1945 coins, being the V75 coin for the anniversary of WW2. It sells for an eye watering $15,000 or higher.

I am guessing that everyone expects the 2026 Burnished coin to sell fewer than the 2025 coin, and that may end up happening.

All of the coins in the sales report are not available anymore, so those are close to final numbers. With the price of gold being so high, it may be the 2024 and 2025 will not achieve high premiums, however if sales drop much further then coins may finish lower than the 2020 W proof.
PS It may be the day that the mint finally cancels these gold coin programs is the day the outlook for these lowest mintage coins will finally be rewarded.

I think that enough people purchase gold from the mint that they really won't discontinue gold coinage for a while. While purchasing has decreased, the mint still probably profits enough to keep the program up for a while.
