My only gold coin so far, I purchased it from my LCS when melt for it was $345; the 2x2 is a little incorrect because I cased it prior to my knowledge of learning the melt. (I thought melt for it was $385 upon purchasing it) I paid $365 for it back in February of last year. Value aside, what do you guys think of it?

I’ll probably post more images to this forum when the coin is back from grading.

Nice coin, but tough to tell from the images regarding grade. I would guess either AU or a low MS grade and wouldn't have sent it in for certification if I owned it, but I don't own it.

Back in the 1970s there were a lot of fake Russian Imperial gold coins coming out of Yugoslavia, either lightweight and/or low quality gold alloy. Getting it slabbed will at least assure you it's genuine.

Apparently I have been awarded the DPOTD twice.
Absolutely! I just want to be sure, especially because it’s my first gold coin and all…

I think the enjoyment I get from looking at the coin is 100% worth having it slabbed. IMO, having it slabbed makes it 2x more fun!

Then it's worth it. Good luck!

5 and 10 Rouble gold coins were/are heavily faked. The fakes are getting better and better and it takes a keen eye to spot some of the better ones. It doesn't help when Soviet Union decided to re-issue the old coins in the late 1920's. These coins were universally accepted in Europe so USSR decided it was easier to re-issue the old coins than make a new coin and possibly not have it accepted.
Do you think that mine is authentic or do you think it is a counterfeit?

I would have to see the rib of the coin and see how that lines up and what the mint masters initials are.
Nice Czarist gold. I need to add a piece.
Collector since 1976. On the CU forums here since 2001.
Russian gold is really nice in all honesty, might be worth buying yourself a piece! (Also I’m glad you like the coin! 🙂)

Seemingly close to being done graded, last time I checked it was at the encapsulation stage

Nice one. I have a circulated one but if gold ever drops significantly I might pick up a slabbed one like yours.
Honestly it's definitely worth having a slabbed 5 ruble. It's not the most valuable gold coin or anything but it sure looks good in a slab!
I'm also currently learning about the Russian Revolution in history so honestly a very fitting coin for me right now lol

Be careful! These are a slippery slope...
Beautiful set!

Thanks! I still need a solid 7.5 rouble gold coin for the set.
Are you planning on getting any earlier Russian gold or sticking to the Nicholas II coinage?

If I find a 7.5 I like, that may be it for a while. Too many other coins I'm still trying to track down...
